Where to Find Free Food Resources and Food Pantries in Detroit and Metro Detroit

Updated

SVSF (St. Vincent and Sarah Fisher Center) publishes a list of free food resources and food pantries covering Detroit and the surrounding metro area. The list is linked directly from the SVSF website under the heading "Free Food Resources & Food Pantries – Detroit & Metro Area," and it is intended for community members in Metro Detroit who need help finding food assistance.

How to Access the List

  1. Go to svsfcenter.org.
  2. Look for the section titled "Free Food Resources & Food Pantries – Detroit & Metro Area."
  3. Click the link in that section to open the list of free food resources in Detroit and surrounding areas.

The site describes the link simply as a list of free food resources for Detroit and nearby communities, so the page itself is the starting point rather than a searchable database.

What SVSF Is

SVSF is the St. Vincent and Sarah Fisher Center, a Detroit-area organization that provides educational programs, basic skill-building, and academic enhancement for at-risk children and adults. Its stated goal is to build self-sufficiency skills for academic and employment success. Alongside its food resource list, SVSF runs programs including:

  • Children's Programs
  • Adult GED® Program — free personalized tutoring to help adults obtain their GED®, with mentoring toward vocational training, higher education, and/or employment
  • Free CLEP preparation and testing — a pilot program with the Michigan Adult, Community and Alternative Education (MACAE) Association, where students enroll in a preparation module and earn a voucher for free testing

SVSF is also a partner of the City of Detroit and Detroit at Work.
