Where to Find GNOBS Events and the Full Calendar

Updated

The Greater New Orleans Bonsai Society (GNOBS) lists upcoming events in two places on gnobs.org: a short look-ahead at the bottom of the home page covering roughly the next three months, and the complete listing of events and meetings on the calendar page, which sits under “News and Events.” If you want the full picture rather than a snapshot, go straight to the calendar page.

What the Home Page Shows

The home page is a welcome page first. It introduces the club — founded in 1972 by bonsai authority Vaughn Banting — and notes that new members are always welcome. Below that introduction, the site says upcoming events for the next three months appear at the bottom of the page.

That means the home page is useful for a quick check of what is happening soon, but it is not the authoritative list. Events further out, and the regular meeting schedule, are not guaranteed to appear there.

The Full Calendar Under “News and Events”

For a complete listing of upcoming events and meetings, the site directs visitors to the calendar page under “News and Events.” This is the page to use when you are planning ahead, checking whether a meeting falls on a date you can attend, or confirming details before traveling.

A practical approach:

  1. Open gnobs.org.
  2. Go to the “News and Events” section and select the calendar page.
  3. Scan the full listing for meetings and events, rather than relying on the home page preview.

Events Named on the Home Page

The home page highlights several dated items, which give a sense of the club’s calendar:

Event Date
Annual Auction August 8, 2026
Listed event Tuesday, October 20, 2026
Listed event Friday, November 13, 2026

The page also carries a “Featured Links” section and a “2026 Auction Sponsors” section. For anything beyond these highlights — including the regular meeting schedule — the calendar page remains the reference.

A Larger Event Worth Knowing About

The home page also promotes All Jazzed Up, the 2027 ABS Learning Seminar in New Orleans, scheduled for March 11–14, 2027. Registration is described as open, with hands-on workshops offered at low prices thanks to presenting sponsor Underhill Bonsai, and the site notes that workshop space is limited and some sessions are expected to fill quickly. Registration is handled through a link on the American Bonsai Society site (americanbonsaisociety.org), which also hosts the complete brochure.

If your interest is a specific workshop rather than the club’s regular meetings, check that registration page early — the site itself warns that popular workshops may close.

If You Are New to the Club

Visiting a meeting as a guest does not require the calendar alone: the site says new members are always welcome, that you can drop in to a regular meeting as a guest, and that a club application is available under “Join” or at every meeting. Reading the calendar page first is still the simplest way to confirm when and where the next meeting takes place.
