Where to Find igraph's Community, Forum, and Latest News
Updated
The official igraph site (igraph.org) links to four community channels — Community, Community packages, Forum, and Discord — plus a News section for release announcements and a GitHub repository for code. The site also publishes a Code of Conduct that applies to these spaces. All of these are reachable from the navigation on the igraph.org homepage.
Community entry points
The homepage navigation lists the following destinations:
| Entry | What it is for |
|---|---|
| Community | General community hub linked from the main navigation |
| Community packages | Packages contributed by the community, listed alongside the official ones |
| Forum | Discussion forum for questions and help |
| Discord | Real-time chat channel |
| Code of Conduct | Rules that govern participation in these spaces |
| On GitHub | Source code and release downloads |
The official packages sit next to these links: the igraph R package, python-igraph, IGraph/M (Mathematica), and the igraph C library. If your question is about one of these packages specifically, the Forum or Discord is the place to ask; if you want add-ons built by others, start with Community packages.
Latest news and releases
The News section on the homepage carries dated release posts. Recent entries, as listed on the site:
- C/igraph 1.0.1 — Dec 26th, 2025. First bugfix release of the 1.0 series, with bug fixes and documentation improvements; source from the GitHub releases page.
- C/igraph 1.0.0 — Sep 20th, 2025. The first 1.0 release after nearly twenty years of igraph. It focuses on a stable, more consistent API, adds an official versioning policy (VERSIONING.md), allows several random graph generators (including the Erdős–Rényi generators) to produce multi-edges, adds result-limiting options to functions that can generate many results (cliques, cycles, etc.), and adds functionality for generating several kinds of spatial networks.
- C/igraph 0.10.17 — Sep 19th, 2025. Described as the last planned bugfix release of the 0.10 series, with new additions, bug fixes, and performance improvements. The site notes that 1.0 would bring breaking changes needed to commit to a longer-term API.
Other posts referenced on the page include python-igraph 0.11.8, python-igraph 0.11.6, python-igraph 0.11.5, C/igraph 0.10.15, C/igraph 0.10.13, and the announcement that the igraph R package crossed the 2.0 threshold. A full archive is available via the "All news" link.
How to use these channels
- Checking whether you need to upgrade: open News and read the post for your package and version. Each release note states what changed and points to the GitHub releases page for source downloads.
- Asking a question: use the Forum for searchable, threaded discussion, or Discord for quicker back-and-forth. Read the Code of Conduct first — it is linked in the same navigation.
- Finding add-on functionality: browse Community packages before writing your own extension.
- Reporting a bug or getting the code: the GitHub link leads to the repository and release downloads referenced in every release post.
One practical caveat from the release notes: the jump from 0.10.x to 1.0 involved deliberate API-breaking changes. If you maintain code against the C library, check the 1.0.0 notes and VERSIONING.md before upgrading rather than assuming drop-in compatibility.
