Where to Find Klondike Sun Archives and Past Issues
Updated
Klondike Sun keeps its back issues on the same site as its current coverage, split across three main routes: an Archives page organized by year, eEdition PDFs for recent digital editions, and the Recent Posts list on the homepage for the newest covers. If you are looking for a specific issue, the fastest path is usually the year-based Archives page; if you want to read a recent paper as it was printed, the PDF editions are the better choice.
The three places past issues live
1. Archives (by year)
The site's Archives section lists past content by year. Years visible in the archive index include:
- 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998
- 2007
- 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016
This is the place to start for older material. Note that the coverage is not continuous — there is a gap between 1998 and 2007, and between 2007 and 2011. If the issue you want falls in one of those gaps, it may not be available through this page.
2. eEdition PDFs (recent digital editions)
A separate page labeled 2024 eEdition PDFs holds digital editions of the paper in PDF form. These are useful when you want the full layout — covers, ads, and page design — rather than individual articles. The site also maintains a 2026 page alongside the eEdition listing, which serves as the landing point for the current year's issues.
3. Recent Posts (newest covers)
The homepage and the Recent Posts list show the most recent issues as cover images, including:
- Klondike Sun cover for 9 September 2026
- Klondike Sun cover for 26 August 2026
- Klondike Sun cover for 12 August 2026
- Klondike Sun Cover for 29 July 2026
- Klondike Sun cover for 15 July 2026
- Klondike Sun cover for 1 July 2026
- Klondike Sun cover for 17 June 2026
- Klondike Sun Cover for 3 June 2026
- Klondike Sun Cover for 20 May 2026
- Klondike Sun Cover for 6 May 2026
Use this list when you just need the latest issue or two and don't want to dig through year pages.
How to search for a specific issue or topic
The site provides a search box labeled "Search the Sun." Enter a keyword — a person's name, an event, a place — and it will return matching posts and pages. This is the most direct method when you know what the article was about but not which issue carried it.
You can also browse by category if you are looking for a type of content rather than a date. Categories include:
| Category | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Front Page | Lead stories |
| Headline news | Major news items |
| Dawson news around the web | External coverage of Dawson |
| Arts and Culture | Cultural reporting |
| Events | Listings and event coverage |
| Photos | Image posts |
| Podcasts | Audio content |
| Video | Video posts |
| Youth Writing Challenge | Youth submissions |
| Featured Articles | Editor-selected pieces |
Practical tips and common snags
- Start with the year, not the search box, for old issues. The Archives page is organized chronologically, so if you know roughly when something ran, browsing the year is faster than guessing keywords.
- Check the PDFs for anything you need to cite or reproduce. Cover images in the Recent Posts list show you what an issue looked like, but the eEdition PDFs give you the full contents.
- Expect gaps. The archive years listed are not a complete run. If a year is missing from the list, that year's content is not exposed through the Archives page.
- The site is WordPress-based, so search results and archive pages behave like a standard blog archive — posts are grouped by date and category, and older items may be paginated.
- For anything not on the site, the Contact Us page is the route to ask the paper directly about availability of a specific back issue.
If your goal is simply to read the latest paper, go to the Recent Posts list or the current-year page. If you need something from the 1990s or 2010s, the Archives page is your entry point — and if it is not there, the gap is the reason, not your search method.
