Where to Find Local Canberra News, Weather and Sport on The Canberra Times Site

Updated

The Canberra Times site (canberratimes.com.au) puts local news, weather and sport in its main navigation menu, which runs across the top of every page. From there you can go straight to News → Local news, Weather and Environment, or Sport, and the same menu links to Today's Paper for the latest edition online. The sections below are open to browse; some individual articles sit behind a digital subscription, and the site promotes subscription offers without stating prices on the page.

News sections

The News menu covers Canberra and the surrounding region:

  • Local news – the main feed for Canberra and ACT stories
  • Public Service and Federal politics – coverage of the public service and national politics from the capital
  • ACT politics – territory government and assembly news
  • Court and Crime
  • Property and Development, Business and Finance, Education, Health
  • Weather and Environment
  • National News and World News
  • Obituaries

The My Region link in the top bar is the quickest way to see content tied to your local area, and Home Page returns you to the main front page.

Weather

Weather sits inside the News menu as Weather and Environment. That section carries forecasts and environment reporting together, so it is the place to check for Canberra conditions as well as climate and environment stories. The site's own description lists weather alongside news, sport and entertainment as core coverage.

Sport

The Sport menu is organised by code and level:

Section What it covers
Live / Toyota Hub Live scores and match-day coverage
AFL, NRL, Australian Rules, Cricket, A-League National competitions
ACT Brumbies, Canberra Raiders Local professional teams
Local Sport Community and regional sport
National Sport, World Sport Broader coverage

If you follow a specific Canberra team, the Brumbies and Raiders pages are the direct routes; Local Sport is better for grassroots results.

Today's Paper and the app

Today's Paper (linked in the top bar and under Quick Links) opens the latest print edition to read online. The site also offers a Download our app link for faster news on mobile, and Newsletters & Alerts if you would rather have updates sent to you. Puzzles — Crossword, Sudoku, Ultimate Trivia, Cryptic Crossword, Word Search and Code Cracker — have their own menu.

What access you get

The page states that a digital subscription includes access to content across all the group's websites in the region, unlimited news content and The Canberra Times app, with premium subscribers also getting interactive puzzles and the digital print edition. It does not list prices or say which articles are free, so check the subscription page for current terms before assuming a story is open.

The same network publishes the Braidwood Times, Crookwell Gazette, Goulburn Post, The Queanbeyan Age and Yass Tribune, linked in the footer — useful if your interest is regional rather than strictly ACT.
