Where to Find OpenRCT2 Downloads, Versions, and Documentation
Updated
The official source for everything OpenRCT2 is openrct2.io. From the homepage you can download the latest release, browse all past versions, and reach both the Getting Started Guide and the User manual. The site describes OpenRCT2 as an "open source re-implementation of RollerCoaster Tycoon 2."
Downloads on the Homepage
The homepage presents two download options:
| Download | Version shown | Size | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| OpenRCT2 | v0.5.5 (Windows) | 75.8 MiB | Signed |
| OpenLauncher | v0.5.4 (Windows) | 44.4 MiB | Separate launcher |
Both entries link to a "View all versions" page, so you are not limited to the current release.
OpenRCT2 vs. OpenLauncher
- OpenRCT2 is the game itself — the re-implementation you run to play.
- OpenLauncher is a separate download listed alongside it, intended as a launcher rather than the game build.
If you only want to play, the OpenRCT2 download is the direct route. If you prefer managing installs and updates through a launcher, OpenLauncher is the alternative. The homepage does not state that one is required for the other, so treat them as two distinct downloads.
Finding Older or Specific Versions
Select View all versions next to either download. This is the page to use when:
- You need a version other than the current v0.5.5 / v0.5.4.
- You want to check what releases exist before choosing.
- You are troubleshooting and want to compare against a different build.
Documentation and Setup Help
Two documentation entry points are linked from the site:
- Getting Started Guide — described as covering installation, setup, and hints.
- User manual — described as explaining how to install and play OpenRCT2.
Start with the Getting Started Guide if you are installing for the first time; use the User manual for ongoing play and reference.
Quick Path
- Go to openrct2.io.
