Where to Find the Anki Manual for Your Phone or Tablet
Updated
The manual at docs.ankiweb.net covers only the computer version of Anki. If you are using Anki on a phone or tablet, you need a separate manual: the AnkiDroid Manual for Android devices, and the AnkiMobile Manual for iPhone and iPad. Both are linked directly from the introduction page of the computer manual.
Which manual applies to your device
| Device | Manual | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Windows, macOS, Linux | This site (docs.ankiweb.net) | The manual you are reading now |
| Android | AnkiDroid Manual | Separate manual for the Android client |
| iPhone / iPad | AnkiMobile Manual | Separate manual for the iOS client |
The introduction page states this split explicitly: "This is the manual for the computer version of Anki. Separate manuals are available for the mobile clients."
How to reach the mobile manuals
- Open the introduction page at docs.ankiweb.net.
- Look for the Mobile Clients section near the top.
- Follow the link for your platform — AnkiDroid Manual (Android) or AnkiMobile Manual (iPhone/iPad).
If you land on the computer manual first, this is the fastest route to the correct mobile documentation, since the links are listed on that page rather than buried in a menu.
Other sections on the same page
The introduction page also points to:
- Quickstart — a direct link to Getting Started if you want to begin immediately.
- Getting Help — where to go if you are stuck.
- Translations — volunteer translations of the manual, with the caveat that they may not always be up to date. Languages listed include Deutsch, Español, Français, Italiano, Polski, Português Brasileiro, русский язык, Українська, العربية, فارسى, 日本語, and 简体中文.
- Legacy Documentation — if you are not on the latest version of Anki, archives of the manual are available at the Internet Archive, and old scheduler versions are covered in a separate FAQ.
Common sticking points
- Using the wrong manual. Desktop-only features and menu paths will not match what you see in AnkiDroid or AnkiMobile, so check the platform first before following instructions.
- Assuming translations are current. The page notes translations may lag behind the English version; when a step does not match, compare against the English manual.
- Being on an older Anki version. If the interface does not match the manual, you may be reading documentation for a newer release — the Internet Archive link is the intended fallback.
