Where to Find the Latest News and Stories on The Methodist Church Website
Updated
The latest news and stories are on the homepage of methodist.org.uk, in two separate sections: Latest stories and Latest News. Both appear below the main banner ("We are called to be a growing, inclusive, evangelistic and justice-seeking Church") and above the site's material on inclusion and climate action. Each item shows a headline, a date, a short summary and a Read more link to the full article. To browse beyond the homepage highlights, use the All stories and All news links at the end of each section.
The two sections and how they differ
| Section | What it carries | Example items on the page |
|---|---|---|
| Latest stories | Longer features, first-person reflection and blogs | "Churches Pilot New Carbon Footprint Trail" (02 October 2026); "Tackling Homelessness" (01 October 2026); "The Demolition of Hope" (29 September 2026) |
| Latest News | Shorter news reports on events and appointments | "Methodists Join Time to Act Liverpool Walk" (01 October 2026); "A prayer for Black History Month" (01 October 2026); "New Methodist Youth President Welcomed" (29 September 2026) |
The split is useful if you are looking for a particular kind of content: stories tend to be reflective pieces by named contributors, while news items report what the Church or its members have done recently.
What the current items cover
The topics on the page give a sense of the range:
- Climate: a pilot letting churches track their carbon emissions as the Church moves towards a net zero future.
- Social justice: the Revd Canon Ian Rutherford, Chair of the Housing Memorial Group and the Connexional Economic Justice Working Group, on what is needed to reduce homelessness.
- International: the Revd David Hardman, Methodist Liaison Officer in Jerusalem, writing after a family home was demolished in the West Bank.
- Peace: Methodists joining the Just Peace Coalition's "Time To Act" walk in Liverpool.
- Inclusion: a prayer from the Revd Dr Kennedy Gondongwe marking the start of Black History Month.
- Young people: the welcome service for Gracie Silk, 20, the new Methodist Youth President, at Melbourne Methodist Church.
How to read a full item and find older ones
- Open methodist.org.uk. The two sections sit on the homepage, so no menu navigation is needed.
- Scan the headlines and dates; each entry has a one- or two-sentence summary underneath.
- Select Read more under the item you want to open the full article.
- To see items beyond those featured, select All stories (after the stories list) or All news (after the news list).
A practical note: the dates shown run into October 2026, so the homepage is refreshed regularly. If you are citing an item, check the date on the article itself rather than assuming the homepage order reflects publication order.
If you want something specific
- Official statements and press-style updates: start with Latest News and then All news.
- Reflection, blogs and longer reads: start with Latest stories and then All stories.
- Background on the Church's identity and priorities: the homepage text below the news sections sets out the "growing, inclusive, evangelistic and justice-seeking" calling, the commitment to Justice, Dignity and Solidarity, and the net zero aim, with links to further pages such as the Inclusive Methodist Church material.
