Where to Get Help with Anki Problems
Updated
The Anki manual at docs.ankiweb.net is the starting point for help: its Getting Help section points to the official support resources, and the manual also offers translations, mobile-specific manuals, and archived documentation for older versions. Use it when you have a question about the computer version of Anki; if you are on a phone or tablet, go to the separate manual for your client instead.
Start with the manual's own help section
The manual is written for the computer version of Anki. Its introduction lists a dedicated Getting Help section, which is where the manual directs readers who are looking for support. If you are in a hurry and just want to begin using the program, the same page points to a Getting Started section instead.
A practical order of operations when something goes wrong:
- Open the manual and read the Getting Help section for the official support routes.
- If you are new rather than stuck, read Getting Started first — many early questions are answered there.
- If your problem is version-specific, check the legacy documentation (see below) before assuming the current instructions apply.
If you use Anki on a phone or tablet
The computer manual does not cover the mobile clients. Separate manuals exist for each:
| Client | Platform | Manual |
|---|---|---|
| AnkiDroid | Android | AnkiDroid Manual |
| AnkiMobile | iPhone/iPad | AnkiMobile Manual |
If your question is about the mobile interface, sync behavior on mobile, or mobile-specific settings, use the matching manual rather than the desktop one.
If language is the barrier
Volunteers have translated the manual, though the translations may not always be up to date. Available languages include:
- Bahasa Indonesia, Deutsch, Español, Français, Italiano, Polski
- Oʻzbekcha, Português Brasileiro
- русский язык, Українська
- العربية, فارسى, 日本語, 简体中文
If you want to help translate the manual into another language, the manual points to separate translation docs.
If you are on an older version of Anki
Two resources cover older setups:
- Archived manuals — the manual notes that archives of previous versions can be found at the Internet Archive.
- Old scheduler versions — for information on old scheduler versions, the manual refers readers to a dedicated FAQ.
Check these before following current instructions, since behavior can differ between scheduler versions.
Keyboard shortcuts and quick reference
The manual also includes a Keyboard shortcuts section, useful when your question is "how do I do this faster" rather than "something is broken."
