Where to Read LCMS News and Publications Online
Updated
The LCMS website (lcms.org) gathers its news and publications in a News section on the homepage, organized into four outlets: Engage, Lutheran Witness, Reporter, and Mission Field. Each block shows a few recent items with a headline, date, short summary, and a "Read More" link, plus a "View all" link to browse that outlet's full story list. You can read current articles directly on the site without any described login or payment step.
The four outlets and what each covers
| Outlet | What it publishes | Example items shown on the homepage |
|---|---|---|
| Engage | Magazine-style stories on Lutheran life and mission, including a Q&A feature | "Lutherans Engage – Fall 2026" (Sept. 15, 2026); "Q&A with Lutheran Jazz Singer Erin Bode"; "Tell the Next Generation" |
| Lutheran Witness | Monthly magazine articles, often reflective or educational | "How I Rediscovered Oct. 31 as Reformation Day" (Oct. 13, 2026); "Our Eyes in the Age of the Algorithm"; "Lutheran Witness: October 2026" |
| Reporter | Official news of the synod — board meetings, appointments, and announcements | "Boards hold first meetings of new triennium" (Oct. 14, 2026); "Fluegge to serve as LHF executive director"; "'Engage': Living water of the Gospel" |
| Mission Field | Mission stories from the U.S. and abroad | "Young adults learn and serve in Dominican Republic" (Aug. 26, 2026); "Global theological education: A postcard from Kenya"; "Short-term opportunities to serve God in the global church" |
A quick way to choose: read Reporter for institutional news, Lutheran Witness for magazine features and reflection, Engage for storytelling around congregational and mission life, and Mission Field for work in specific regions.
How to browse each category
- Go to lcms.org and scroll to the News area of the homepage.
- Find the outlet you want — Engage, Lutheran Witness, Reporter, or Mission Field.
- To open a specific item, select its headline or Read More; the summary line under each headline tells you what the article covers before you click.
- To see everything in that outlet, select View all at the bottom of its block (for example, "View all Engage Stories," "View all LW Articles," "View all Reporter News," or "View all Mission News").
Expected result: you land on a list of that outlet's stories, newest first, and can open any article from there.
What you'll find right now
The homepage currently surfaces a mix of recent and dated items, including:
- A Fall 2026 Lutherans Engage issue described as covering Lutherans "from New Mexico to northwest Kenya" receiving "living water."
- A Reformation Day reflection in Lutheran Witness on rediscovering Oct. 31 as a joyful, educational, Lutheran celebration.
- Reporter coverage of the first meetings of the new triennium for the Board for National Mission, Board for International Mission, Board of Directors, and Council of Presidents in St. Louis.
- A Mission Field story about six young adults from St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Oconomowoc, Wis., who took part in a mission education trip to the Dominican Republic in June 2026.
Practical notes
- Dates and headlines on the homepage change as new items are posted, so treat the examples above as a snapshot rather than a fixed archive.
- If you're looking for a specific topic (for example, a past Reformation Day piece or a particular mission region), start with the relevant outlet's "View all" list rather than scanning the homepage.
- The homepage also links to related destinations such as engage.lcms.org and reporter.lcms.org, which host the fuller versions of those outlets' content.
