Which Bursar Page or Portal Should UChicago Students Use?

Updated

Use the Bursar site as a router, not a single destination: my.UChicago is the entry point for your student account, the Authorized User portal is for parents or sponsors you designate, the Services page covers payment plans, third-party billing, and refunds, and the Policies and Taxes pages hold the rules and annual tax documents. The right page depends on whether you are viewing your own account, granting someone else access, or looking up a rule or form.

Start with the task, not the page

Paying the bill

Payments go through the Student and Authorized User Portals for both domestic and international payments. For external scholarships, 529 College Savings Plans, and Prepaid Tuition Plans, the Bursar directs students to the UChicago BackPack Portal to submit payment. If you are unsure which method fits your situation, the Services page is the place to compare options before you start a transaction.

A practical sequence: confirm the charge on your student account, choose the payment route that matches your funding source, then submit through the correct portal. If a 529 plan or scholarship is paying, do not route it through the standard payment screen — use BackPack as directed.

Authorized user access

The Authorized User portal is a distinct entry point from the student account, which matters when a parent or sponsor needs to see or pay the bill. The student grants that access; the authorized user then works from their own portal rather than the student's my.UChicago view. If a family member says they cannot see the bill, check whether they have been set up as an authorized user before troubleshooting anything else.

Rates, policies, and taxes

Tuition and fee rates are listed for the two most recent academic years, with upcoming-year rates updated each May — so a rate you find in, say, early spring may not yet reflect the next year. The Policies section covers your student financial responsibilities and payment processing rules, and Taxes covers annual tax reporting and the documents available to you as a UChicago student. The site also points to a Financial Wellness section for broader money-management resources.

Staying current

The Bursar advises keeping your student account current and following @uchicagobursar on social media for announcements, events, and dates. For account management guidance, the Funding Sources page is the recommended starting point.
