Which Clinical Domains Does EACTS Cover?
Updated
EACTS organises its clinical content around four domains: acquired cardiac disease, congenital heart disease, thoracic disease, and aortic disease. Each domain has its own section on eacts.org covering advanced surgical techniques and the prevalent issues surgeons face in that area. If you are looking for education, consensus documents, or specialist events in one of these fields, the domain structure is the fastest way to find them.
The four domains at a glance
| Domain | Scope as described by EACTS |
|---|---|
| Acquired cardiac disease | Advanced surgical techniques and strategies across the spectrum of acquired cardiac surgery, plus prevalent issues faced by acquired cardiac surgeons today |
| Congenital heart disease | Advanced surgical techniques and strategies across the spectrum of congenital heart surgery, plus prevalent issues faced by congenital surgeons today |
| Thoracic disease | Advanced surgical techniques and strategies across the spectrum of thoracic surgery, plus prevalent issues faced by thoracic surgeons today |
| Aortic disease | Advanced surgical techniques and strategies across the spectrum of vascular surgery, plus prevalent issues faced by vascular surgeons today |
Each domain page on the site is introduced with a "Read more" link, so you can move from the overview into the detailed content for that specialty.
How the domains connect to the rest of the site
The domains are not isolated sections — they are the organising principle behind much of what EACTS publishes and runs:
- Education and courses. Upcoming courses and webinars are labelled by domain. For example, the Thoracic Disease Webinar on fundamentals of AI and showcasing solutions is listed under the Thoracic Disease domain and is open to all skill levels.
- Publications. EACTS publishes expert consensus documents and journals; new consensus documents are flagged in the "What's new" feed, which is where domain-specific guidance surfaces.
- Events. The Annual Meeting and specialist summits — such as the Mechanical Circulatory Support Summit — bring the community together across these clinical areas. The 41st EACTS Annual Meeting is scheduled for 6–9 October 2027 in Berlin.
Choosing where to start
- Looking for clinical guidance in your specialty? Start with the domain page that matches your practice — acquired cardiac, congenital, thoracic, or aortic — then check the "What's new" feed for recently published consensus documents.
- Looking for training or CME? Browse upcoming courses and webinars and filter by domain; sessions are tagged with the relevant domain and skill level.
- Looking for the broader community? The Annual Meeting is described by EACTS as the world's largest meeting of the cardiothoracic surgical community and spans all four domains.
One caveat: the site describes each domain's scope in broad terms ("across the spectrum" of the relevant surgery). For specifics — particular procedures, course prerequisites, or registration details — follow the "Read more" link on the domain page or the individual course listing, since those details are not spelled out in the overview.
