Which LazPaint download should I choose for my operating system?
Updated
Pick the download that matches your OS and whether you want an installer or a no-install archive. The LazPaint download page (version 7.3) groups files under Windows, Linux, Linux (Qt5), Linux ARM, UNIX, and MacOS. If you just want the simplest install, choose the "Setup" on Windows or a Deb package on Linux; if you want to run it without installing, choose an archive, Portable, or AppImage.
Windows
| Option | Best for | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Setup (32-bit and 64-bit) | Most users who want a normal install | Single setup covers both architectures |
| 32-bit archive (no install) | 32-bit Windows, no-install use | Unpack and run |
| 64-bit archive (no install) | 64-bit Windows, no-install use | Unpack and run |
| Portable (32-bit and 64-bit) | USB drives or moving between PCs | No install, keeps things self-contained |
Choose Setup if you want LazPaint integrated into your system. Choose Portable if you switch computers or can't install software. Choose a 32-bit or 64-bit archive only if you specifically want a no-install version for that architecture.
Linux
| Option | Best for | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 32-bit Deb package | Debian/Ubuntu-based 32-bit systems | Installs via your package manager |
| 64-bit Deb package | Debian/Ubuntu-based 64-bit systems | Installs via your package manager |
| 32-bit archive (no install) | No-install use on 32-bit | Unpack and run |
| 64-bit archive (no install) | No-install use on 64-bit | Unpack and run |
| AppImage 64-bit | Portable 64-bit use across distros | Single file, no install |
If your distro uses Deb packages, the Deb package is the cleanest choice. If you want one file that runs on many distributions, take the AppImage 64-bit. Use an archive when you prefer not to touch the system package manager.
Linux (Qt5)
The page lists a separate Qt5 set: Qt5 32-bit Deb package, Qt5 32-bit archive (no install), Qt5 64-bit Deb package, and Qt5 64-bit archive (no install). Choose a Qt5 build if your system's Qt5 libraries are the ones you want LazPaint to use; otherwise the standard Linux builds above are the default choice.
Linux ARM
- 32-bit archive (no install)
- 64-bit archive (no install)
Use these on ARM devices (for example ARM-based boards or laptops). Both are no-install archives, so unpack and run.
UNIX
- FreeBSD 64-bit archive (no install)
- OpenBSD 64-bit archive (no install)
Pick the archive matching your BSD system. Both are 64-bit and require no installation.
MacOS
- MacOS 64-bit — direct download for 64-bit macOS.
- MacOS brew — install through Homebrew if you already manage software that way.
Use the direct 64-bit download if you want the file immediately. Use brew if you prefer Homebrew to handle installation and updates.
Quick decision guide
- Windows, normal install: Setup (32-bit and 64-bit)
- Windows, no install: Portable or the matching archive
- Debian/Ubuntu Linux: 32-bit or 64-bit Deb package
- Any 64-bit Linux, portable: AppImage 64-bit
- Linux without installing: 32-bit or 64-bit archive
- ARM Linux: 32-bit or 64-bit archive
- FreeBSD/OpenBSD: the matching 64-bit archive
- macOS: MacOS 64-bit or MacOS brew
All items above are for LazPaint 7.3. The page also includes a Donate link, which is optional and separate from the downloads.
