Which Minecraft and Hytale World Files Can uNmINeD Read?
Updated
uNmINeD reads world files from Minecraft Java Edition, Minecraft Bedrock Edition, and Hytale, then renders them as a browsable 2D overview map that you can export as an image or a web page. It runs on Windows, Linux, and macOS. If your world comes from one of those three editions, you can point uNmINeD at it; the main caveats are Bedrock's LevelDB storage and the extra files needed for the experimental isometric mode.
Supported world formats
| Edition | World files | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Minecraft Java Edition | Yes | Standard Java world saves |
| Minecraft Bedrock Edition | Yes | Stored in LevelDB format; the tool reads the world's LevelDB files |
| Hytale | Yes | Listed as a supported world viewer/mapper target |
The site describes uNmINeD as a "Minecraft and Hytale world viewer and mapper tool" that "can read Minecraft Java Edition, Minecraft Bedrock Edition and Hytale world files." That is the core compatibility statement: all three are supported for the standard 2D map rendering and image/web export.
Compatibility details worth knowing
Bedrock worlds use LevelDB
Bedrock saves are LevelDB databases rather than region files. Recent development snapshots show this area is actively maintained: version 0.20.10-dev fixed Bedrock LevelDB parsing errors, and 0.20.11-dev changed behavior so missing Bedrock LevelDB *.ldb files are ignored instead of throwing an error. In practice, a Bedrock world with incomplete or partially copied LevelDB files is more likely to load in a current build than in older ones, but you should still copy the entire world folder rather than individual files.
Isometric mode needs extra files
The isometric renderer (still experimental) has stricter requirements than the 2D map:
- Java and Bedrock worlds: you need a Java Edition client JAR file, selected in the World/App settings menu under "Default Minecraft client JAR to use." If you don't have Java Edition installed, the release notes say you can download a client JAR from the Minecraft Wiki.
- Bedrock worlds: you also need a vanilla resource pack ZIP, selected in World/App settings. The notes point to GitHub: click Assets, then download the
bedrock-samples-*-full.zipfile. - Versions don't have to match exactly; using the latest resource pack "usually works."
Also note that as of 0.20.11-dev, isometric image and web export is not yet available, and isometric documentation is still coming. If you only need a standard 2D overview map, none of these extra files are required.
Version drift
The release notes describe ongoing fixes to block conversion and blockstate resolving (including "26.3+ default blockstate resolving speed"), which indicates the tool tracks Minecraft changes over time. If a world from a very new game version renders oddly, check whether a newer uNmINeD build is available before assuming the world format is unsupported.
Practical check before you start
- Identify your edition: Java, Bedrock, or Hytale.
- Copy the whole world/save folder to a working location so the mapper reads a stable copy.
- Open the world in uNmINeD and let it render the 2D overview.
- Export as an image or a web page when the map looks right.
- Only if you want isometric rendering, add the client JAR (and Bedrock resource pack) in World/App settings first.
If you'd rather not run a desktop tool, the site also mentions BedrockMap as an online option: export your Minecraft world and upload it to generate an interactive map you can share. That route is aimed at sharing rather than local file browsing, so choose it when distribution matters more than working directly with your save files.
