Which URL shortener services does Shortshare support?
Updated
Shortshare supports 14 established URL shortener services, plus custom APIs and self-hosted solutions such as YOURLS. If your shortener is on that list — or exposes an API you can plug in — Shortshare can drive it. Note that the app is no longer available for iOS and macOS: it can no longer be updated for reasons outside the developer's control and is not compatible with iOS 27 / macOS 27 or newer. Existing customers can download a fixed macOS build.
The 14 supported services
According to the Shortshare site, the app works with these established URL shortener services:
- Bitly
- Rebrandly
- Shortio
- Tinyurl
- OpenMyLink
- Kutt
- Is.gd
- Hive
- Url.rw
- Kurze Links
- Linko
- dub.co
- dsh.re
Beyond the built-in list
Shortshare also supports custom APIs and self-hosted solutions like YOURLS. That matters if you run your own shortener or use a service that isn't in the list above but exposes an API — you're not limited to the 14 built-in integrations.
Custom URL keywords
Shortshare lets you set custom URL keywords, so you can create links such as bit.ly/your-short-url. This depends on whether the connected shortener supports custom keywords — the feature is available "if supported by the URL shortener," not guaranteed across every service.
What this means for choosing a service
| Your situation | What to check |
|---|---|
| You already use one of the 14 services | It should work directly — confirm the service still supports the API access Shortshare needs |
| You run YOURLS or another self-hosted shortener | Supported via the self-hosted/custom API path |
| You use a shortener not on the list | Only viable if it exposes a custom API you can configure |
You need custom keywords (e.g. bit.ly/your-short-url) |
Verify the specific shortener supports custom keywords |
Platform and availability caveats
Shortshare was available in the Mac App Store for macOS, the App Store for iOS, and the Microsoft Store for Windows, with a native Safari App Extension on macOS and extensions for Chrome and Firefox. However, the iOS and macOS versions are no longer available and are incompatible with iOS 27 / macOS 27 or newer. Existing customers can download a fixed macOS build from the site. If you're evaluating Shortshare today, treat the macOS build as the practical option and confirm your shortener is supported before relying on it.
