Who is Noah Doersing?

Updated

Noah Doersing is a media informatics graduate and software developer based in southern Germany. He holds a Master's degree in media informatics from the University of Tübingen and now works at SüdWestStrom, where — in his own words — he "makes computers go b r r r r r r." His personal site, noahdoersing.com, is a hub for his open-source projects, generative art, photography, and writing.

Background and current work

  • Education: Master's degree in media informatics, University of Tübingen (recently graduated as of the site's writing).
  • Employment: Works at SüdWestStrom.
  • Location: Southern Germany — he lives near the Rammert, a forested hill range he references often.

What he does outside of work

Doersing's site lists a wide range of personal interests and activities:

  • Open-source projects — hosted on Codeberg, with older work on GitHub.
  • Generative art — made with both software and hardware.
  • Photography — primarily of birds, shared on a site he calls Rarefied Pixels.
  • Filmmaking — filming birds "getting up to various hijinks."
  • OpenStreetMap — an active contributor.
  • Music — listens to independent artists.
  • Social media — posts on Mastodon, mirrored on Bluesky.
  • Walking and cycling — gets around by foot or bike.
  • Growing chilis.
  • Blogging — writes at Excessively Adequate about programming and adjacent topics, such as infinite Bash history, adjusting a Mac's system volume from the command line, drawing the Sierpiński Triangle with recursive SQL and SVG, and isomorphisms between integers and composite types in Haskell.

A small personal detail he shares: his favorite pasta shape is radiatori.

Notable projects

Project Year Description
Rammertblick Pending release A directory of things to see in the Rammert forest (huts, springs, wayside shrines, monuments, landmark trees, boundary stones). Combines his interests in walking, photography, coding, web design, and local history. Planned as a static site under an open license, possibly mid-2026. A landing/teaser page is already live.
osm2svg4art 2025 A single-page app that takes an address, retrieves nearby roads and paths from OpenStreetMap via the Overpass API, and converts them into a color-coded SVG ready to be plotted on an AxiDraw pen plotter. Originally built for #ptpx2024, a pen plotter postcard exchange.
nyum 2021–now A simple Pandoc-powered static site generator for recipe collections.
