Why does lan-play.com show a JavaScript error?

Updated

lan-play.com is a JavaScript-rendered status page, so if JavaScript is disabled or blocked, the site cannot load its content and instead shows a message asking you to enable JavaScript. To fix it, enable JavaScript for lan-play.com in your browser and reload the page. This applies to any browser or extension that is currently blocking scripts on that domain.

What the error actually means

The page text is a fallback notice, not a server outage:

We're sorry but LAN Play Status doesn't work properly without JavaScript enabled. Please enable it to continue.

That message is embedded in the page so it appears whenever the browser refuses to run scripts. The real content — the LAN Play status information — is generated by JavaScript after the page loads. With scripting off, there is nothing for the browser to display except the notice.

How to fix it

The exact menu names differ by browser, but the action is the same: allow JavaScript for lan-play.com, then reload.

Chrome or Edge (desktop)

  1. Open the page and click the icon to the left of the address bar (site information / permissions).
  2. Find JavaScript in the permissions list and set it to Allow.
  3. Reload the page.

If JavaScript is disabled globally instead of per-site:

  1. Go to Settings → Privacy and security → Site settings → JavaScript.
  2. Select Sites can use JavaScript.
  3. Return to lan-play.com and reload.

Firefox (desktop)

  1. Type about:config in the address bar and accept the warning.
  2. Search for javascript.enabled.
  3. If it is set to false, toggle it to true.
  4. Reload lan-play.com.

Safari (macOS)

  1. Open Safari → Settings → Security (or Preferences → Security on older versions).
  2. Make sure Enable JavaScript is checked.
  3. Reload the page.

Mobile browsers

Most mobile browsers enable JavaScript by default. If the notice still appears, check for a content blocker or a browser setting labeled JavaScript or Site settings and allow it for lan-play.com.

If enabling JavaScript does not help

The notice can also appear when something else prevents scripts from running. Check these in order:

  • Extensions or blockers. Ad blockers, script blockers, and privacy extensions can block scripts on a specific domain even when JavaScript is enabled globally. Disable them for lan-play.com or pause them and reload.
  • Hard refresh. A cached copy of the fallback page may still be served. Use a hard reload (Ctrl+Shift+R on Windows/Linux, Cmd+Shift+R on macOS) or clear the cache for the site.
  • Private/incognito mode. Open lan-play.com in a private window. If it loads there, an extension or cached data in your normal profile is the cause.
  • Another browser or network. Try a different browser, or a different network. If it fails everywhere, the problem is more likely on the site side than in your settings.
  • Corporate or school networks. Some managed networks strip or block scripts. In that case the fix is on the network side, not in your browser.

What you should see once it works

After JavaScript is allowed and the page reloads, the fallback notice is replaced by the actual LAN Play status content. If you still see only the notice after confirming JavaScript is on and extensions are disabled, the page itself is failing to initialize — retry later or check from another device to confirm whether it is a local or site-side issue.
