Why Does Tailblocks Show a Blank Page or Require JavaScript?

Updated

Tailblocks is a client-rendered web app, so if you see a blank page or the message "You need to enable JavaScript to run this app," your browser is blocking the JavaScript that draws the entire interface. Enable JavaScript for tailblocks.cc, then reload the page — the block gallery and previews should appear. This applies to any browser or extension that disables scripts by default.

What is actually happening

The page you request from tailblocks.cc is a shell. The visible content — the Tailwind CSS block previews, categories, and code — is generated in the browser after the app's JavaScript loads and runs. When scripts are disabled or blocked, that shell has nothing to render, so you get an empty page or the explicit JavaScript notice.

This is a normal pattern for single-page apps, not a sign that the site is down. The same behavior appears if a script blocker, privacy extension, or corporate policy strips the app's JavaScript before it executes.

How to fix it

  1. Check the page message. If it says JavaScript is required, that confirms the cause rather than a network or server problem.
  2. Enable JavaScript for the site. In most browsers this lives under Settings → Privacy and security → Site settings → JavaScript. Allow it for tailblocks.cc rather than globally if you prefer.
  3. Reload the page. A hard refresh (Ctrl+Shift+R, or Cmd+Shift+R on macOS) forces the app to re-fetch and re-run its scripts.
  4. Disable script blockers for this domain. Extensions like ad blockers, NoScript, or strict tracking protection can block the app even when the browser's own JavaScript setting is on. Whitelist tailblocks.cc and reload.
  5. Try a clean profile or another browser. If it still fails, a fresh profile without extensions isolates whether an add-on is the culprit.

Expected result: after enabling JavaScript and reloading, the block previews and their Tailwind markup render normally.

Common snags

  • JavaScript is on but the page is still blank. Usually an extension or network filter is intercepting the scripts. Test in a private window with extensions disabled.
  • It worked before and stopped. A browser update, a new extension, or a changed privacy setting can flip script blocking back on.
  • Slow first paint. Because content is rendered client-side, a slow connection can show a brief empty state before blocks appear — wait a moment before assuming it's broken.

When this matters

If your goal is to browse and copy ready-to-use Tailwind CSS blocks, JavaScript is a hard requirement — there is no static fallback. If you need to work in an environment where scripts are permanently disabled, Tailblocks won't function there, and you'd need a source that serves pre-rendered HTML instead.
