Why Won't NZ: Portable Load or Start?

Updated

NZ: Portable is a browser-based Call of Duty: Zombies de-make that runs on WebGL. If it won't load or start, the most common cause is that JavaScript is disabled or blocked — the site itself displays the message "Please allow/unblock our javascript to play." Fix that first, then check WebGL support and whether the page has simply not finished loading.

Check JavaScript first

The page's own notice points to JavaScript as the primary requirement. If scripts are blocked, the game cannot initialize at all.

  • Browser setting: Make sure JavaScript is enabled for the site. In most browsers this is on by default, but it can be turned off globally or per-site.
  • Extensions: Ad blockers, script blockers, and privacy extensions can block the game's scripts even when JavaScript is enabled. Try disabling them for this page or adding an exception.
  • In-app browsers: If you opened the link inside another app (social media, messaging), its built-in browser may restrict scripts. Open the URL in a full browser instead.

Expected result: once scripts are allowed, the page can proceed to its start prompt.

Confirm WebGL support

NZ: Portable renders via WebGL, so the browser and device must support it.

  • Use a current version of a mainstream browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari).
  • Check that hardware acceleration is enabled in your browser settings — WebGL often depends on it.
  • Very old devices, some restricted work or school machines, and browsers with GPU features disabled may not provide WebGL at all.

If WebGL is unavailable, the game has no way to draw its graphics, regardless of JavaScript settings.

Wait for the start prompt

The page shows a "Drop Zone" screen with a "Click To Begin!" prompt. If you don't see it yet:

  • Give the page a moment to finish loading before assuming it's broken.
  • If the prompt never appears, reload the page after fixing JavaScript or WebGL.
  • Click the prompt to start — the game may not begin until you do.

Quick troubleshooting checklist

Symptom Likely cause What to try
Blank page, no prompt JavaScript blocked Enable JavaScript; disable script/ad blockers for the site
Prompt appears but nothing renders No WebGL support Update browser; enable hardware acceleration; try another browser
Nothing happens on click Page not fully loaded Reload and wait for the prompt
Works elsewhere but not here Restricted in-app browser Open the URL in a full browser

If it still won't start

Try a different browser or device to isolate whether the problem is the site or your setup. A machine with a working GPU and an up-to-date browser is the most reliable environment for a WebGL game. If JavaScript is allowed, WebGL is supported, and the start prompt still doesn't respond, the issue is likely on the hosting or build side rather than your settings.
