A floating pontoon dock is a modular platform that stays afloat on sealed buoyancy units (pontoons) rather than on fixed pilings driven into the seabed. The pontoons are bolted together into the shape and size needed, and a deck surface is laid over them. Because the whole structure rises and falls with the water, it suits sites with large tidal ranges or fluctuating water levels where a fixed pier would be awkward.
