How to Create an Audio Summary of a Podcast, Video, or RSS Feed

Updated

You can turn a long podcast, YouTube video, Twitch VOD, or RSS/MP3 file into a short text and audio summary by pasting its URL into a summarizer, choosing a length and language, and generating the result. On Podsnapper, this works with Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, Twitch, and RSS/MP3 sources, and produces both a readable text summary and an AI-generated audio version you can stream or download. The first summary is free; ongoing use requires a paid plan.

What you need before you start

  • A public URL for the episode or video (Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, Twitch, or a direct RSS/MP3 link).
  • A decision on summary length: Short, Medium, or Long.
  • A decision on output language — Podsnapper supports 30+ languages, with English as the default.
  • An account if you've already used your one free summary.

If the audio sits behind a login, a paywall, or a region lock, the tool can't reach it. That's the most common reason a link fails.

Step-by-step: generating an audio summary

1. Copy the source link

Grab the URL of the episode, video, or feed. For a podcast, this is usually the episode page on Apple Podcasts or Spotify, or the direct RSS/MP3 address. For video, it's the YouTube watch URL or the public Twitch VOD link.

Expected result: you have one clean URL pointing at the audio you want summarized.

2. Paste the link into the summarizer

Paste it into the input field on the Podsnapper home page. The tool reads the URL to identify the source and pull the audio.

Expected result: the tool accepts the link and moves you to the options step. If it rejects the link, see the troubleshooting section below.

3. Choose summary length and language

Pick how long you want the summary to be:

Length Best for
Short A quick scan of the main point
Medium A balanced overview with some supporting detail
Long A fuller breakdown when you want more of the substance

Then pick your output language from the 30+ options (English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Russian, Japanese, Korean, Chinese Simplified and Traditional, Arabic, Turkish, Indonesian, Thai, Vietnamese, Hindi, Ukrainian, Czech, Danish, Finnish, Greek, Hungarian, Norwegian, Romanian, Slovak, Swedish, Bulgarian, Estonian, Latvian, Lithuanian, and Slovenian).

Expected result: both settings are locked in before you generate, so the output matches what you asked for.

4. Generate the summary

Run the summarizer. Podsnapper transcribes the audio and then curates it into a summary rather than dumping a raw transcript — the goal is key takeaways, not a wall of text.

Expected result: you get two outputs — a text summary and an AI-generated audio summary.

5. Listen or read

You now have three ways to consume the result:

  • Stream the audio summary in the browser, useful when you're walking, driving, or doing chores.
  • Download it for offline listening.
  • Read the text version if you want to skim, copy quotes, or take notes.

Expected result: the same content in whichever format fits your moment.

What the audio summary actually is

It's not the original episode trimmed down. The tool transcribes the audio, then writes a condensed version and generates new speech from that condensed text. So the audio summary is a fresh, shorter narration of the key points — which is why it can appear in a different language from the original episode. If you want the source's exact words, you want a transcript instead; if you want the gist in a few minutes, you want the summary.

Troubleshooting common failures

The link isn't accepted. Check that it's a public URL and that the platform is supported (Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, Twitch, RSS/MP3). Private, unlisted, or login-gated links won't work.

The audio is region-locked or private. A Twitch VOD that's been deleted, a members-only podcast feed, or a geo-restricted video can't be fetched. Try a public version of the same episode.

No speech detected. If the file is mostly music, silence, or non-speech audio, there's nothing to summarize. Confirm the episode actually contains spoken content.

The summary language looks wrong. Language is set before generation, so re-run with the correct output language selected. The original episode's language doesn't limit your output language.

Choosing a plan

Podsnapper starts free and scales up:

Plan Price Summaries
Free $0 1 free summary
Light $5.99/month or $59/year 10/month
Pro $9.99/month or $99/year 30/month
Max $19.99/month or $199/year Unlimited

All paid tiers include text + audio summaries, 30+ output languages, support for Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, Twitch, RSS & MP3, and offline download. Yearly billing saves roughly 17–18%.

How to decide: if you summarize occasionally, the free summary plus Light covers most casual use. If you process several episodes a week, Pro's 30/month fits. If you summarize daily or run it as a workflow, Max removes the cap.
