Aeromotive 340 LPH vs. 450 LPH vs. Dual/Triple 450 LPH Returnless Fuel Pump Systems

Updated

Aeromotive's returnless in-tank systems scale fuel delivery by stacking identical 450 LPH pump modules: one pump for the 340/450 LPH single systems, two for the Dual, and three for the Trifekta. All four use a VaporWorx pulse width modulation (PWM) controller to vary pump speed instead of a mechanical return line. Pick the single 340 LPH for mild EFI builds, the single 450 LPH for moderate power, the Dual for high-horsepower street/strip use, and the Triple for maximum demand — prices run from $1,291.70 to $2,612.65.

The four systems at a glance

System Part Number Price Pump count Flow rating
340 LPH In-Tank Returnless SB-340-66136 $1,291.70 1 340 LPH
450 LPH In-Tank Returnless SB-450-66136 $1,414.25 1 450 LPH
Dual 450 LPH In-Tank Returnless SB-DUAL450-66138 $2,067.30 2 ~900 LPH combined
Triple 450 LPH Trifekta Returnless SB-TRIFEKTA-66142 $2,612.65 3 ~1,350 LPH combined

All four share the same architecture: in-tank pump module(s), returnless fuel delivery, and a VaporWorx PWM controller. The differences are pump count, flow ceiling, and price.

What "returnless" and the VaporWorx controller actually do

A conventional return-style system sends excess fuel back to the tank through a return line, which heats the fuel and adds plumbing. A returnless system keeps fuel in the tank and regulates pressure at the pump instead.

The VaporWorx PWM controller is what makes that work at variable demand. Rather than running the pump at full speed constantly, it modulates pump speed based on engine demand. That matters more as pump count rises: with two or three 450 LPH pumps running flat-out, you would overwhelm most fuel systems at idle and cruise. PWM lets the controller dial pump output down when demand is low and ramp it up under load.

How to choose by power level

Aeromotive does not publish horsepower ratings for these systems on the page, so use flow as the deciding variable and confirm your target against a fuel flow calculator for your injector size and fuel type.

  • Single 340 LPH (SB-340-66136): the entry point. Suited to mild to moderate EFI builds where a single in-tank pump covers demand.
  • Single 450 LPH (SB-450-66136): roughly 32% more flow than the 340 for about $123 more. The natural step up if the 340 is marginal for your build.
  • Dual 450 LPH (SB-DUAL450-66138): two 450 LPH pumps for builds where a single pump cannot keep up. The PWM controller is essential here — two pumps at full speed is far more fuel than most engines need at part throttle.
  • Triple 450 LPH Trifekta (SB-TRIFEKTA-66142): the top of the line, for maximum fuel demand. Cost jumps to $2,612.65, roughly double the single 450.

The price steps are not linear with pump count: going from one 450 to two adds about $653, and from two to three adds about $545. The controller and in-tank hardware are shared across all four, so you are mainly paying for added pump capacity.

Matching a system to your vehicle

Aeromotive's site offers two paths: a "Shop by vehicle" tool and a "Find a Fuel Pump" universal pump finder for vehicles not listed. Use the vehicle lookup first — if your application is covered, it narrows the choice directly. If not, the universal finder matches a pump to your setup.

Before ordering, confirm:

  1. Target flow — calculate required LPH from your injector size, number of injectors, and desired duty cycle.
  2. Fuel type — gasoline and E85 demand different flow for the same power.
  3. Tank compatibility — these are in-tank systems; verify fitment for your tank or plan a compatible tank.
  4. Controller wiring — the VaporWorx PWM controller needs a control signal; confirm your ECU or setup can provide it.

Where the money goes

The single 340 at $1,291.70 and single 450 at $1,414.25 differ by only about $123 — if you are near the 340's limit, the 450 is a cheap upgrade. The Dual at $2,067.30 and Triple at $2,612.65 are for builds that genuinely need the flow; if a single 450 covers your demand, the extra pumps add cost and complexity without benefit.

Aeromotive also lists a pump rebuild program (complete evaluation and rebuild) and an easy returns policy, which matter if you are upgrading an existing Aeromotive pump rather than buying new.
