HANDZ Free vs Premium: What's the Difference?

Updated

HANDZ offers two tiers: a free version with 2 rigged hand models, 25 poses each, 4 objects, 3 sleeves, 900 PNG files, and a Blender beginner tutorial; and a Premium version priced at $29 that adds Blender source files, 23 rigged hands, 76 poses, 40 objects, 22 accessories, 19 sleeves, and 7,000 PNG files. The free version is enough to test the library's style and finish a small project; Premium is for anyone who needs variety, source files, or higher-volume output.

What the free version includes

The free download is a complete, usable package — not a demo with watermarks or locked formats. According to the HANDZ site, it contains:

  • 2 rigged 3D models of hands — one male, one female
  • 25 poses for each hand
  • 4 objects — UI elements, a megaphone, a star
  • 3 sleeves — basic sleeve, jumper, suit
  • 900 PNG files of rendered 3D hands
  • Blender Beginner tutorial

That means you can drop rendered PNGs straight into a design, or open the models in Blender and pose them yourself within the 25-pose set.

When free is the right call

  • You're testing whether the HANDZ art style fits your brand or project
  • You need a handful of hand images for a landing page, slide deck, or app mockup
  • You only need one or two hand types (male/female) and standard poses
  • You don't need to edit the underlying 3D source

What Premium adds

Premium is priced at $29 and includes everything in the free version, plus:

Feature Free Premium
Rigged hands 2 (male, female) 23 (male, female, chibi, alien, robot, zombie, pig, turtle, dragon claw, and more)
Poses 25 per hand 76
Objects 4 40 (UI elements, star, money, key, card, iPhone, iPad, drink cup, etc.)
Accessories — 22 (smart/classic watches, rocker wristbands, rings, bracelets, bandage, etc.)
Sleeves 3 19 (suit, jumpers, military, leather, rocker, chef, biologist, tattooed, etc.)
PNG files 900 7,000
Blender source files (.blend) — ✅
Blender beginner tutorial ✅ ✅
Combinations Limited Millions

The headline difference is the Blender source files. Without them, you can only use what's already rendered or re-pose the two free rigs. With them, you can recolor skin (the site explicitly supports any skin tone, from light to dark and fantasy colors like green, purple, and blue), swap accessories, and build combinations that don't exist as pre-rendered PNGs.

When Premium is worth it

  • You need character variety — non-human hands (robot, zombie, dragon claw) only exist in Premium
  • You're building app or UI mockups that require many distinct hand gestures; 76 poses vs. 25 is a large jump in coverage
  • You want to customize colors or combine assets — this requires the .blend source files
  • You're producing at volume and 900 PNGs won't cover your asset needs
  • You want accessories like watches, rings, or themed sleeves

How to decide

Ask one question: do you need to change anything about the hand, or just use it as-is?

  • Use as-is → free version is likely sufficient for a small project. Download it, check the 25 poses and 900 PNGs against your actual needs.
  • Change anything (color, pose beyond the set, accessories, hand type) → you need Premium's source files and larger asset library.

The $29 price is a one-time purchase shown on the site. If your project is commercial and recurring, the source files alone typically justify the cost, since re-rendering from .blend avoids re-buying assets later.

Practical notes before buying

  • The free version is a genuine subset, so you can evaluate render quality and pose style before paying.
  • Premium's "millions of combinations" claim comes from mixing 23 hands × 76 poses × 40 objects × 22 accessories × 19 sleeves — the actual usable count depends on which combinations make sense for your project.
  • HANDZ sits alongside other libraries from the same creator (CHARACTERZ, AVATARZ, ICONZ, Animalz), so if you need matching characters or icons, check those separately — they are not included in the HANDZ purchase.
