How Daily Words and Word Statistics Work in Pixletters

Updated

Pixletters gives you one daily word to guess in five tries, and the next word unlocks when the on-page countdown reaches zero (the site shows a "Next daily words in" timer). Your results feed a statistics panel that tracks games played, win rate, current streak, best streak, and a guess distribution. Both features are visible on the game page itself, so you can check your record before or after each attempt.

How the Daily Word Works

The daily word is a five-letter word, and the goal is to guess it within five tries. You type a valid five-letter word and submit it; the game then colors pixels to tell you how close you are.

The clues work like this:

  • Blue pixels — the letter in that spot is correct.
  • Green pixel — the letter in that spot must contain this pixel.
  • Red pixel — the letter in that spot must not contain this pixel.
  • Gray pixels — unknown for now; the letter may or may not contain those pixels.

Each guess colors more pixel rows, so the picture sharpens as you go. The site's own examples show how to read partial clues: if only the top-left pixel is known, letters without a top-left pixel are ruled out; if a letter must have three pixels in the top row and none in the corners, any letter with a corner pixel is wrong.

The countdown on the page tells you when the next daily word becomes available. The site also offers a "Next word" option and a retry path, and it lists Android and iPhone/iPad apps alongside browser play.

What the Statistics Panel Tracks

The statistics block on the page displays:

Stat What it shows
Played Number of games you've played
Win Number of wins
% Your win percentage
Current streak Consecutive wins going right now
Best streak Your longest run of wins
Guess distribution How many wins came in 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 guesses

The guess distribution is the most useful part for improving: it shows whether you tend to solve the word early or scrape by on the fifth try. A cluster of wins at 4–5 guesses suggests your opening words aren't narrowing the pixel clues fast enough.

Practical Tips for Using Both Features

  • Check the countdown before you start. If the timer is nearly done, you may prefer to wait for a fresh word rather than spend attempts on one about to expire.
  • Use the distribution as feedback, not a score. A low best streak with many 4–5 guess wins usually means your first guess is too generic; pick an opening word whose letters give you readable pixel patterns.
  • Remember the mode matters. In PLUS mode, pixels are colored in rows or columns according to arrows, and more rows or columns color in with each guess. In PRO mode, only one row or column is colored. The same statistics apply, but the clue volume differs, so compare your results within the same mode.

The statistics are shown on the game page, so there's no separate account dashboard described in the available material. If you play across browser and app, treat each session's panel as the record you can see rather than assuming a synced profile.
