How isUpMap Determines and Displays Service Status
Updated
isUpMap is a real-time status heatmap that checks whether the services you depend on are up, degraded, or down right now. It covers 80+ popular internet services and shows current status alongside recent incidents and per-service uptime. The live dashboard fetches status dynamically and requires JavaScript — without it, you'll see the monitoring scope but not the live up/down heatmap or incident history.
What isUpMap monitors
The directory spans several categories of widely used services:
| Category | Examples |
|---|---|
| AI | OpenAI, Anthropic, xAI, Groq, Perplexity, Hugging Face, ElevenLabs, Cursor |
| Developer & Cloud | GitHub, Cloudflare, AWS, Vercel, Netlify, npm, Docker, GitLab, Supabase, Firebase |
| Payments | Stripe, Coinbase, Shopify, Plaid, Square, Klarna |
| Communication | Discord, Slack, Zoom, Twilio, SendGrid, Resend, Intercom |
| Productivity & Media | Notion, Figma, Dropbox, Reddit, Linear, Airtable, Canva, Datadog |
If a service you rely on appears in this list, isUpMap can show its current state without you visiting each provider's own status page.
How status is determined and displayed
The dashboard works by fetching service status dynamically when the page loads. Each monitored service is mapped to one of three states:
- Up — the service is operating normally.
- Degraded — the service is reachable but experiencing partial problems.
- Down — the service is unavailable.
These states are rendered as a heatmap, so you can scan many services at once and spot which ones are healthy versus struggling. Alongside the current status, isUpMap surfaces recent incidents and per-service uptime, giving context beyond the immediate moment — a service that's up right now may still show a recent incident or a dip in uptime.
Checking a specific service
- Open isUpMap in a browser with JavaScript enabled.
- Let the dashboard fetch the latest status (you'll briefly see "Fetching service status...").
- Either scan the heatmap for the service you care about, or use the directory to jump to a specific one.
- Read the service's current state, then check its recent incidents and uptime for context.
The site also supports direct lookups phrased as questions — for example, "is GitHub down?" or "is OpenAI down?" — which take you straight to that service's status.
Key limitations to keep in mind
- JavaScript is required. The live heatmap, incident history, and per-service uptime only appear once JavaScript runs. Without it, you see the list of monitored services but no live data.
- Desktop is recommended. The site notes it is best viewed on desktop, so the heatmap layout may be harder to read on smaller screens.
- Scope is fixed to the directory. isUpMap covers the 80+ services it monitors; a service outside that list won't have a status here.
For a quick, consolidated read on whether the tools you depend on are healthy right now, isUpMap is useful when you have JavaScript enabled and want a single view across many services rather than checking each provider individually.
