How RaidPlan.io Handles In-Game Scale and Distance Measurement

Updated

RaidPlan.io supports true in-game scale for at least some encounters: when you create a plan for The Venomous Abyss, object sizes and coordinates are based on in-game yards rather than arbitrary pixels. A Measure tool is also available to calculate in-game distances directly on the plan. The catch is that scale is tied to the background you use — plans made before the True Scale release need their background switched to a newer one before the feature applies.

What "True Scale" means in practice

In a true-scale plan, the distances you draw correspond to actual distances in the game world. If a mechanic forces players to spread 5 yards apart, a 5-yard gap on the plan represents that same 5 yards in the encounter.

According to the RaidPlan.io changelog (Aug 5, 2026), this applies to The Venomous Abyss: "sizes and coordinates will now be based on in-game yards." That covers the geometry you place on the plan — object sizes and their coordinates — not just a visual label.

Which encounters are covered

The changelog names The Venomous Abyss specifically. Other encounters are not confirmed as true-scale in the available material, so treat yard-based sizing as encounter-dependent rather than universal. If precise distances matter for a fight, verify the behavior on that encounter's background before relying on it.

Using the Measure tool

The Measure tool was added alongside True Scale to "calculate in-game distances." The workflow is straightforward:

  1. Open a plan in the editor.
  2. Select the Measure tool.
  3. Draw between two points on the plan.
  4. Read the resulting distance in in-game yards.

The expected result is a yard value you can compare against mechanic ranges (soak radii, spread requirements, stack distances) instead of eyeballing pixel gaps. The tool measures; it does not automatically place objects for you.

Why older plans may not show true scale

Scale is bound to the background. The changelog states that if you created a plan before the True Scale release, "switching the background to a newer one will enable this feature." So a plan that still uses an older background can keep displaying non-yard sizing even though the feature exists.

If distances look wrong on an existing plan, the first thing to check is the background, not the objects.

Related distance and geometry features

True Scale sits alongside other measurement-oriented additions from the same update:

Feature What it does
True Scale Sizes and coordinates based on in-game yards (Venomous Abyss)
Measure tool Calculates in-game distances on the plan
Cone distance property Sets distance for cone-shaped objects
Line length property Sets length for line objects
Hotkey guide Available under Menu → Hotkeys

Cone distance and line length matter because cones and lines are the shapes most often used to represent cleaves, breaths, and frontal mechanics — the same mechanics where yard accuracy is most useful.

Practical checklist

  • New plan for The Venomous Abyss: create it normally; yard-based sizing applies.
  • Existing plan with odd distances: switch the background to a newer one to enable True Scale.
  • Need a specific distance: use the Measure tool rather than estimating.
  • Building a cone or line: set the distance/length property explicitly so it matches the mechanic.
  • Unsure of a shortcut: check Menu → Hotkeys.

One limitation worth noting: the available material confirms true scale for The Venomous Abyss and describes the Measure tool generally, but does not list every encounter where yard-based sizing is active. Confirm on the specific encounter background you plan to use.
