How Saves and Save Codes Work in PokéClicker

Updated

PokéClicker saves your progress automatically in the browser, and the Start Menu gives you manual controls to export a save, import an existing save, and enter codes. The exact buttons you'll see are New Save, Import Save, Save, and Enter Code. If you want to move progress between browsers or devices, use the export/import pair rather than trying to copy anything by hand.

Where the save controls live

Everything relevant sits in the Start Menu, which is the panel that opens with the game's main navigation (Pokédex, Items, Gems, Profile, Badge Case, Save / Enter Code, Settings, Events, Statistics, Achievements, Log Book, Damage Calculator, Challenge Modes, Changelog, FAQ, Credits, External Links, Report a bug).

The save-related entries in that list are:

  • Save — writes your current progress.
  • Enter Code — accepts a code to apply something to your save.
  • New Save — starts fresh.
  • Import Save — loads a save you already have.

Because these are grouped under one "Save / Enter Code" area, treat it as the single place to look whenever you need to back up, restore, or transfer progress.

Automatic saving vs. manual saving

The game tracks your state continuously as you play — catches, items, achievements, statistics, and so on all update live. The Save action exists so you can force a write at a moment you choose, for example right before closing the tab or before doing something risky like a Challenge Mode run.

A practical routine:

  1. Play normally; progress is tracked as you go.
  2. Before closing the browser or switching devices, open the Start Menu.
  3. Trigger Save.
  4. If you plan to move to another browser, also export/copy your save data now, while the game is open.

Importing a save

Import Save is the counterpart to exporting. The flow is:

  1. Open the Start Menu.
  2. Choose Import Save.
  3. Provide the save data you previously exported.
  4. Confirm, and the game loads that state.

Use this when you've switched browsers, cleared site data, or want to continue on a different machine. Import replaces your current progress with the imported state, so export your current save first if you might want it back.

Entering codes

Enter Code is separate from importing a save. It takes a code and applies its effect to your existing save rather than replacing it. The page evidence shows the code entry living in the same Save / Enter Code area, so the distinction to remember is:

Action What it does Replaces progress?
Save Writes current progress No
Import Save Loads a previously exported save Yes
Enter Code Applies a code's effect to your save No
New Save Starts over Yes

Desktop client and saves

The site offers a desktop client download, described as a way to play offline and improve performance. The client also has a Pokémon exclusive to it once you reach the Sevii Islands. If you play across both browser and client, keep your save handling consistent — export from one and import into the other rather than assuming they share state.

Common pitfalls

  • Importing without exporting first. Import overwrites your current progress. Export before you import if the current save matters.
  • Confusing codes with saves. A code changes your save; it doesn't restore a lost one. Only Import Save restores a previous state.
  • Assuming a browser and the desktop client share progress. They're separate environments; move data explicitly.
  • Relying only on the tab staying open. If you're about to clear browser data or switch devices, do a manual Save and keep an exported copy.

Quick reference

  • Back up before anything risky: Save, then export.
  • Move to a new browser or device: export, then Import Save on the other side.
  • Apply a code: Enter Code.
  • Start over: New Save (this discards current progress).
