How to Browse Live TV Channels by Country or Category on TVAtlas

Updated

TVAtlas organizes its live TV listings two ways: by country and by category. To find a specific region, use the country list or the interactive 3D globe explorer; to find a type of content regardless of origin, use the category filters. Both routes lead to the same channel directory, and no account is needed to browse. The counts below reflect what the site displayed at the time of writing and change as the underlying community databases are updated.

Browsing by country

The country view is the faster route when you already know where a channel broadcasts from. TVAtlas lists each country with the number of channels currently indexed for it, so you can judge how much choice to expect before clicking through.

Country Channels listed
United States 2,453
India 793
Russia 520
Germany 483
United Kingdom 355
Brazil 308
Spain 300
Italy 281
Türkiye 263
Dominican Republic 259
Chile 256
France 251
Ukraine 224
Canada 216
Sweden 209

Smaller catalogs are listed too — Ecuador (89), Bolivia (85), and others — so a country with a modest count isn't missing, just narrower in scope.

Steps:

  1. Open the country section of the directory.
  2. Pick a country from the list, or use the 3D globe explorer to rotate to a region and select it.
  3. Scan the resulting channel list and start a stream in your browser.

Expected result: a filtered list of channels tied to that country, playable in the browser without installing an app.

Common snag: a country's channel count tells you how many entries exist, not how many will play reliably at any given moment. Public streams go offline and come back, so a channel that fails once may work later.

Browsing by category

Category browsing ignores geography and groups channels by what they show. This is the better route when you want news, sports, or kids' programming without caring which country it comes from.

Category Channels listed
General 2,709
News 1,056
Entertainment 840
Religious 805
Music 785

Travel 57

Steps:

  1. Open the category section.
  2. Select a category such as News or Sports.
  3. Browse the matching channels and open one to stream it.

Expected result: a cross-country list of channels in that category.

Common snag: "General" is the largest bucket and mixes many formats, so it's less precise than picking a narrower category like Documentary or Weather.

Combining both filters

Country and category are separate entry points into the same directory. If you want, for example, news from a specific country, start from the country list and scan for news channels, or start from the News category and look for the country you want. The site doesn't present a single combined filter in the material available, so expect to do that narrowing by eye.

What the numbers mean

TVAtlas describes itself as an open streaming directory that aggregates public IPTV and radio streams from community databases including iptv-org and famelack. That matters for two reasons:

  • The catalog is a snapshot. The headline figures — over 12,451 TV channels and 26,934 radio stations across 224 countries — reflect what was indexed at that point, not a fixed lineup.
  • Availability is inherited. Because streams come from public community sources, whether a given channel plays depends on that source, not on TVAtlas hosting it.

Practical notes

  • No sign-up, app download, or subscription is required to browse, per the site's own description.
  • Radio is covered alongside TV, so the same country and category browsing applies to audio stations.
  • If a channel doesn't load, try another in the same country or category rather than assuming the whole section is broken — individual public streams vary in reliability.
