How to Create a Deltarune Text Box and Export It as PNG, GIF, or MP4

Updated

Open the Undertale Text Box Generator, pick the Official Dark World (Deltarune) border preset, enter your dialogue, choose a font and sprite, then export as PNG for a still image, GIF for a typewriter animation, or MP4 for a clip with sound. The whole flow runs in the browser, and the tool also produces a share link so you can save or hand off the exact configuration.

Before You Start

You need a browser and a short line of dialogue. Decide up front what the box is for, because that determines the export format:

  • Still image for a post or thumbnail → PNG
  • Typewriter effect for a meme or reaction → GIF
  • Clip with audio for video editing → MP4

The generator's default output is PNG at 578 × 152, which matches the classic box proportions. You can change the format in the export area before downloading.

Step 1: Choose the Deltarune Border

The border selector holds 12 presets. For a Deltarune look, choose Official Dark World (Deltarune), which gives you the Dark World dialogue frame. The Official Original Box is the classic Undertale style, so don't confuse the two if you specifically want Deltarune.

Other presets in the same list are tribute or AU styles (Underfell, Underswap, Earthbound, FNAStale, and custom shapes like Octagonal or Shaded Ground). They're useful if your scene is a crossover, but they won't read as Deltarune.

If you change your mind, Reset to Default returns you to the Original Box.

Step 2: Set Font, Sprite, and Text

Three controls shape the box content:

  1. Font — the typography system includes Determination Mono for classic narration, a Sans Comic style for laid-back lines, and a Papyrus decorative font for loud uppercase dialogue. Pick the one that matches the character speaking.
  2. Sprite — add a character portrait so the box reads as a specific speaker rather than generic narration.
  3. Text — type your dialogue into the dialogue field.

A tip shown in the editor: use \color codes inside the text to change text color. That's the practical way to highlight a word or shift the mood of a line without leaving the text field.

Quick Presets as a Shortcut

If you don't want to configure each control, the preset row sets a starting scene for you: Classic Undertale, Sans Meme, Papyrus Dialogue, Battle Text, Choice Box, Animated GIF, and MP4 with Sound. Each preset adjusts text, sprite, and export intent together, so you can start from the closest one and then swap the border to Dark World.

Step 3: Preview the Typewriter Timing

Before exporting, play the box in the editor. The preview shows the typewriter animation timing, which matters most if you're making a GIF or MP4 — a line that types too fast loses the effect, and one that types too slowly makes a long GIF. Adjust the text length or timing until the reveal feels right, then move to export.

Step 4: Export in the Right Format

Format What you get When to use it
PNG Static box at 578 × 152 by default Posts, thumbnails, single-frame memes
GIF Typewriter animation Reaction images, looping dialogue
MP4 Video export with sound Editing into a larger video

Two practical notes on export:

  • MP4 is exported separately from the main export button, specifically so the video export can keep sound. Don't assume the main export covers video.
  • Copy Link generates a share link for the current configuration. Use it to save a setup you like or send the exact box to a collaborator instead of re-describing the settings.

There's also a Box Stacker that holds up to 30 boxes, with Export Stack and Clear controls — handy if you're building a multi-line conversation and want consistent styling across frames.

Common Snags

  • The box doesn't look like Deltarune. Check the border preset — Original Box is Undertale, not Dark World.
  • The color code shows up as literal text. Confirm you're using the \color syntax the editor's tip describes rather than plain text.
  • No audio in the video. Use the separate MP4 export path, which is the one built to keep sound.
  • You lost a configuration you liked. Use Copy Link before closing the tab; the share link preserves the setup.

Once your box is exported, the PNG, GIF, or MP4 file is ready to drop into a post, a meme, or a video timeline without further conversion.
