How to Create and Share a Raid Plan on RaidPlan.io

Updated

RaidPlan.io is a browser-based planner for World of Warcraft raid bosses. You can create a plan by opening the planner, choosing a raid encounter background, placing class icons, spells, arrows, and other objects, organizing everything into steps, and then sharing the result with your group. Real-time collaboration is available, but you must be signed in to a RaidPlan account to join a collaborative session.

Before You Start

  • A browser and a RaidPlan.io account if you want to save plans or collaborate in real time.
  • The raid encounter you want to plan for. The site includes all WoW raids from all expansions, though some assets may be missing.
  • If you are planning for The Venomous Abyss, sizes and coordinates are based on in-game yards, so distances you place match actual in-game distances.

Create a New Plan

  1. Open the planner from the site's "Create a raid plan" entry point.
  2. Select a raid encounter background. You can also use a custom background while selecting a raid encounter.
  3. Place your objects. Available elements include class icons, spells, arrows, lines, cones, polygons, assignment lists, and embedded text.
  4. Use the Measure tool to calculate in-game distances.
  5. Add notes to explain the plan. Plan notes support markdown formatting, and each step can have its own notes with an optional header and footer.
  6. Organize the plan into steps. Steps can include unique backgrounds, even from different bosses or different raids.
  7. Check the preview to see what viewers will see.

Useful Editing Features

  • Undo/redo for correcting mistakes.
  • Layer management to control what sits on top of what.
  • Pinning and tethering: objects can be pinned to other objects (grouping) or tethered to other objects (line links).
  • Facing direction lock: an object's facing direction can be locked to another object.
  • Slots: player position assignments that stick to a number and persist across all steps.
  • Spell tooltips: hold Shift and drag a spell icon to add its full tooltip directly into your plan. Tooltips can be viewed by difficulty.
  • Hotkey guide: available under Menu -> Hotkeys.

Share the Plan

Once your plan is ready, share it with your group so they can view the steps, notes, and object placements. Custom vanity URLs are supported, which makes the link easier to pass around.

Collaborate in Real Time

Real-time collaboration lets other users join and make changes to your plans at the same time. Collaboration starts immediately when two or more users open a plan in the editor. You must be signed in to a RaidPlan account to join a collaborative session. This feature is free for all users and is currently in beta.

Common Issues to Watch For

  • Missing assets: some raid assets may be missing, but you can still create plans using the custom layout.
  • Older plans and true scale: if you created a plan before the true-scale update for The Venomous Abyss, switching the background to a newer one enables the feature.
  • Collaboration is in beta: if you run into issues, report them through the site's Discord or directly to the developer.
