How to Export a Web Whiteboard as an Image or PDF

Updated

Click the "Export this board" icon next to the Web Whiteboard name in the top-left corner of your screen, then choose JPG or PDF. That's the whole process — no sign-up needed. The one condition that matters: if you don't save or export your board, it is permanently deleted after 24 hours, so export before you close the tab if the content matters.

Step-by-step export

  1. Open the board you want to export.
  2. Look at the top-left corner of the screen, next to the Web Whiteboard name.
  3. Click the "Export this board" icon.
  4. Select the file type you want — JPG or PDF.
  5. The file downloads to your device.

Expected result: you get a static copy of the board as an image or a document you can keep, print, or send.

Who can export a shared board

Export isn't limited to the person who created the board. Once you share a board link with others, they can export it too by clicking the same "Export this board" icon. They can save it as either a JPG or a PDF file.

This also means anyone with the link has the same editing rights as the creator — sharing a board link grants full edit access, not view-only access. If you need to manage who can edit, that requires signing up for the free Miro Plan.

Export options for registered Miro users

If you're a registered Miro user, the same "Export this board" icon offers more formats. Alongside image and PDF, you can export as:

  • Spreadsheet
  • Embed
  • Google Drive

So the export menu is wider for Miro accounts, but the location of the button is the same.

Don't lose your board: the 24-hour rule

Web Whiteboard boards are available for 24 hours. If you don't save or export a board, it is permanently deleted after that window.

Two ways to keep your work:

Situation What to do
You just want a copy of the current board Export it as JPG or PDF before the 24 hours are up
You want to keep working on it later Sign up for the free Miro Plan, log in, and save your work
You're already a registered Miro user Click "Save to my boards" at the center top of the screen

Exporting gives you a flat snapshot; saving to a Miro account keeps the board editable. If the board is a work in progress, export alone won't preserve it for future editing.

Common snags

  • Board gone after a day. If you didn't export or save within 24 hours, the board is permanently deleted — there's no recovery described.
  • Expecting view-only sharing. Sharing the link gives everyone editing rights, so anyone you invite can also export the board.
  • Wanting spreadsheet or Google Drive export without an account. Those extra formats are tied to registered Miro users; the anonymous Web Whiteboard export covers JPG and PDF.
