How to Find Keyboard Shortcuts for a Specific App on UseTheKeyboard
Updated
To find shortcuts for a specific app on UseTheKeyboard, use the Search for shortcuts field on the homepage, or browse the Most Popular and All Programs lists. Selecting an app opens its shortcut collection. This works for any app or website listed on the site; if your app isn't in the list, the site won't have a page for it.
Search directly for the app
- Open usethekeyboard.com.
- Locate the Search for shortcuts field near the top of the page.
- Type the app or website name (for example,
Notion,Figma,Discord, orTelegram Desktop). - Select the matching result to open that app's shortcut collection.
Expected result: a page listing shortcuts for that app. If no match appears, the app isn't covered.
Browse the lists instead
If you don't know the exact name, or want to see what's available:
- Most Popular — a short list of frequently viewed apps, including Notion, Figma, Discord, and Telegram Desktop.
- All Programs — the full alphabetical index of covered apps and websites.
The All Programs list spans Mac apps, Windows programs, and websites. Examples include:
| Category | Examples from the list |
|---|---|
| Mac apps | Finder, Xcode, iTerm, Transmit, Sequel Pro |
| Windows programs | Notepad++, PuTTy, Zoom for Windows |
| Cross-platform / web | Notion, Figma, Slack, Gmail, Google Chrome, Visual Studio Code, Trello, Spotify |
Select any entry to view its shortcut collection.
What to check before relying on a page
- Platform match: some apps appear more than once for different platforms (for example, Zoom for Mac and Zoom for Windows). Pick the entry that matches your system.
- App version: the site collects shortcuts per app but doesn't state which version each collection reflects. If a shortcut doesn't work, check the app's own documentation or settings.
- Coverage gaps: the list is curated, not exhaustive. Apps outside the All Programs list have no page.
Common snags
- Search returns nothing: try the shorter, common name of the app (e.g.,
VS Codevs.Visual Studio Code), or scan All Programs. - Wrong platform's shortcuts: return to the list and choose the Mac or Windows variant explicitly.
- Shortcut doesn't respond: confirm the app window is focused and that the shortcut isn't overridden by an OS-level or app-specific setting.
If an app is missing, the site's footer includes a Make a request link, which is the route for asking the maintainer to add it.
