What a Glyph Account Does and Why You'd Create One

Updated

A Glyph account is a free, ad-free login that saves your puzzle stats — streak, win rate, and history — to the cloud instead of a single browser or phone. You need one if you want your progress to survive a device switch, a new browser, or a cleared cache. If you only ever play on one device and don't care about losing that data, you can skip it and keep playing as a guest.

What you get with an account

The account screen at glyph.today lists four concrete benefits:

  • Stats that persist. Your streak, win rate, and history are stored with the account rather than tied to local storage, so they survive a new phone or a new browser.
  • Cross-device play. Start a Glyph on your phone and finish it on your laptop; progress follows the account.
  • Streak protection. Without an account, the site states your stats "only exist on this device." An account is what keeps a streak from resetting when you change devices.
  • No ads, no cost. The sign-up prompt describes accounts as "free, no ads, no catch."

The one rule that matters: sign up on your main device

This is the detail most people miss. When you create an account, your existing stats transfer automatically — but only from the device you sign up on. The site's own guidance is to create the account on the device you play on most.

So if you've built a long streak on your phone and sign up on your laptop, the phone streak stays behind. Pick the device holding the stats you care about, then register there.

How to create one

  1. Open glyph.today and find the Account panel.
  2. Choose Register (the login form has a separate Login tab if you already have one).
  3. Enter an email and password, then Create Account.
  4. If you had stats on that device, they transfer at sign-up.
  5. Optionally set a username and an emoji icon from the account screen.

There's also a Forgot password? link if you lose access later.

What an account does not change

Creating an account doesn't alter how the puzzle itself works. Decode attempts, the Glyph Alphabet, Decoder Keys (one per attempt), and Golden Glyph credit for first-attempt solves all function the same whether you're logged in or not. The account is about keeping your record, not about unlocking gameplay.

Quick decision guide

Your situation Create an account?
Play on one device, don't mind losing stats Not necessary
Switch between phone and laptop Yes
Have a streak worth protecting Yes — sign up on the device with the streak
Want stats to survive a new phone or browser Yes

If you're unsure, the safe move is to register on your most-used device now: it costs nothing, removes ads, and locks in whatever progress you've already made.
