What Are the Limitations of Links and slideFrame in temper?
Updated
temper lets you add two kinds of links to a paragraph: a normal link that opens a URL, and a "slideFrame" link that embeds the target page inside your own page. Both come with specific constraints. The main ones: your link text must be unique within its paragraph, and slideFrame only works with external HTTPS links that explicitly allow iFrame embedding — and it is still labeled beta.
Link text must be unique within a paragraph
When you add a link, you type the link text, select it, and a link button appears in the bottom right corner. temper requires that this text be unique inside that paragraph.
- If the same link text appears twice in one paragraph, the tool cannot tell which instance you mean, so the link behavior breaks or the button does not apply as expected.
- The fix is simple: reword one of the instances so each linked phrase is distinct within its paragraph. Uniqueness is scoped per paragraph, not per page, so the same phrase can appear in a different paragraph.
slideFrame is a beta feature
slideFrame is marked beta in the interface. Treat it as a feature that may behave inconsistently or change. If embedding is central to your page, test the result after downloading your HTML file rather than assuming it will render everywhere.
slideFrame only works with external HTTPS links that allow iFrame embedding
This is the strictest limitation. A slideFrame link will only render if all of the following are true:
| Condition | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Protocol | External HTTPS link |
| Embedding policy | The target site must allow iFrame embedding |
| Status | Feature is in beta |
If a site sends headers that forbid framing (for example, an X-Frame-Options or Content-Security-Policy that blocks it), the slideFrame will not display the page. Many major sites block framing for security reasons, so a link that works as a normal link may fail as a slideFrame.
Normal links vs. slideFrame links
- Normal link: opens the URL (optionally in a new window). Use this when you just want visitors to reach another page.
- slideFrame link: embeds the page inside your own page. Use this only for external HTTPS pages you know permit embedding.
When in doubt, use a normal link — it has no embedding restrictions, only the unique-text rule.
Practical checklist
- Make each link's text unique within its paragraph.
- Use a normal link for anything that might block framing.
- Reserve slideFrame for external HTTPS pages you have confirmed allow iFrame embedding.
- After editing, open the settings button in the top right to add metadata and adjust appearance, then use the download button there to generate your personalized HTML file.
- Test the downloaded file on your own hosting to confirm links and any slideFrames behave as intended.
