What Is PokéClicker?

Updated

PokéClicker is a free browser-based Pokémon fan game that plays like an idle/clicker RPG: you click to deal damage, catch Pokémon, and let progress accumulate over time. It's aimed at players who want a long-running collection game rather than a traditional story-driven Pokémon title. You can play it directly at pokeclicker.com, or download a desktop client for offline play and better performance.

How the core loop works

The game is built around repetition and automation rather than moment-to-moment skill:

  • Click Attack — clicking damages the current wild Pokémon. Your click damage grows as you progress.
  • Catch Chance — each Pokémon has a catch rate shown in the battle UI, and you throw Poké Balls to catch it. Defeated Pokémon count toward progress even if you don't catch them.
  • Pokédex — caught Pokémon are recorded, and completing entries is a central long-term goal.
  • Idle progression — battles continue on their own, so you can leave the game running and return to accumulated progress.

Systems you'll encounter

The interface exposes a lot of interconnected systems beyond basic battling:

System What it does
Pokédex Tracks caught Pokémon, including Shiny and Shadow variants
Items Item Bag, Key Items, Evolution Items, Collectible Items, Vitamins, Consumables, Held Items
Gems & Gem Plates Currency and upgrade materials
Underground Treasure, Fossils, Fossil Pieces, Shards, Mega Stones
Achievements Tracked via an Achievement Tracker with progress counters
Challenge Modes Alternate rule sets for replaying content
Damage Calculator Estimates battle damage
Statistics & Log Book Records attempts, clears, and other progress data

There's also a Profile with trainer name, background, and text color customization, plus a Badge Case for gym badges.

Dungeon Guides (beta)

Dungeons can be run manually or automated with hired Dungeon Guides:

  • You pay an upfront, non-refundable cost for a set number of attempts.
  • Buying more runs at once gives a discount.
  • Guides open chests, take ladders, and start boss battles automatically.
  • They don't guarantee a clear and charge regardless of outcome.
  • Each guide has its own movement speed and tile preferences (some sense specific tiles, others avoid certain ones).
  • The feature is explicitly labeled beta, so behavior may change.

Offline and desktop play

The site offers a downloadable desktop client that lets you play offline and improves performance. It also includes a Pokémon exclusive to the client that becomes available when you reach the Sevii Islands. Save import is supported, so you can move progress between the browser and client.

What to expect as a new player

  • No cost to start — the game runs in the browser at pokeclicker.com.
  • Long-tail progression — expect grinding, collection, and incremental upgrades rather than a short campaign.
  • Lots of menus — the UI is dense (items, gems, achievements, statistics, challenge modes), so give yourself time to explore each panel.
  • Community feedback channels — the game links to a Discord for bug reports and feedback, which matters for beta features like Dungeon Guides.

If you want a Pokémon-themed game you can leave running in a tab and check back on, PokéClicker fits that use case. If you want a hand-crafted story adventure, it isn't that.
