What Is RaidPlan.io? A Browser-Based WoW Raid Boss Planner
Updated
RaidPlan.io is a browser-based planning tool for World of Warcraft raid bosses, used to build visual, step-by-step encounter plans that can be shared and reviewed with your group. It fits raid leaders, officers, and anyone who needs to explain positioning, assignments, and movement before or after a pull. You do not need to install anything — plans are created and viewed in the browser, and the site covers raids from multiple WoW expansions.
What you can actually build
A plan is a sequence of steps drawn on top of a boss encounter background. Each step can hold its own layout, so you can show "before pull," "during phase 1," and "after the first soak" as separate frames rather than cramming everything into one image.
Elements you can place and adjust include:
- Class icons with round and flat color variants
- Slots for player position assignments, which stick to a number and persist across all steps
- Cones, lines, and polygons for danger zones, soak areas, and movement paths
- Arrows and lines with cone distance and line length properties
- Text elements with basic formatting
- Assignment lists for who does what
Objects can be pinned to each other (grouping), tethered to each other (line links), or have their facing direction locked to another object. There is also a Measure tool for calculating in-game distances, and a Hotkey guide under Menu → Hotkeys.
Steps, notes, and backgrounds
Plans are not limited to one boss or one raid. You can use a custom background while selecting an encounter, and individual steps may use different backgrounds — including bosses from different raids. That makes it possible to build a single plan that walks through a full raid night rather than one encounter.
Plan notes support markdown formatting, and each step can have its own notes with an optional header and footer. A preview shows what viewers will see, so you can check readability before sharing.
Sharing and real-time collaboration
Plans can be shared with other players for review. Since August 22, 2026, RaidPlan.io also supports real-time collaboration: when two or more users open a plan in the editor, collaboration starts immediately, and changes are made together. Joining a collaborative session requires being signed in to a RaidPlan account. The feature is in beta, and the site states it is and will remain free for all users.
If you hit problems with collaboration, the site directs users to its Discord or to the developer directly.
VOD review and logs
Beyond drawing plans, the tool includes a review side. You can add streams for VOD review, with YouTube video and unlisted stream support, and the maximum number of streams you may add was increased in a July 25, 2026 update. WCL/FFL connection stability was also improved in that release, so you can review logs alongside the plan.
Coverage and accuracy caveats
RaidPlan.io added all WoW raids from all expansions. The site notes that some assets may be missing, but you can still create plans using a custom layout.
For The Venomous Abyss specifically, sizes and coordinates are based on in-game yards as of August 5, 2026. If you created a plan before that release, switching the background to a newer one enables true scale. Spell tooltips can be viewed by difficulty, and holding Shift while dragging a spell icon adds its full tooltip directly into your plan.
When it is the right tool
Use RaidPlan.io when you need to communicate spatial information — where to stand, where to move, which group handles which mechanic — and a wall of text or a single static image is not enough. It is less useful if your group already runs a different planning tool and does not want to maintain plans in two places, or if you only need a quick verbal explanation for a simple encounter.
To start, open the planner and create a raid plan for your target encounter; the site's own entry point for this is the "Create a raid plan" link on the homepage.
