What Is tactics.tools and What Does It Offer for Teamfight Tactics Players?

Updated

tactics.tools is a third-party stats and analytics site for Teamfight Tactics (TFT). It collects match data and turns it into browsable stats, comp rankings, trend charts, and planning tools so you can check what's actually performing before you queue. It's most useful if you already know the set basics and want data to settle decisions like which comp to force, which units to prioritize, or how a patch shifted the meta. It is not affiliated with Riot Games, and it isn't a replacement for learning the game — it's a reference layer on top of it.

What the site covers

The navigation reflects the main data categories:

  • Stats — unit, item, trait, and augment performance pulled from matches.
  • Top Comps — ranked comp lists with play rate, average placement, top 4%, and win%.
  • Units / Items / Traits / Augments — per-entity stat pages.
  • Explorer — filterable stat queries.
  • Trends — how placements and comp strength move over time.
  • Tools — Team Builder, Tables, Tier Lists, Perfect Synergies.
  • Players — Ranked, Double Up, and Bookmark leaderboards, plus Top Unit Players and a "Wrapped" recap.
  • PBE / Patch Notes — upcoming-set and patch information.
  • Set info — for the current set (Set 17 in the source) and the next one (Set 18), covering units, traits, items, augments, portals, and a synergy grid.

Reading a comp entry

Each comp card on the Top Comps list carries the same fields, so you can compare them directly. From the source data:

Comp Play Rate Avg Place Top 4 % Win % Style
Riftbeast Amumu & Aphelios 0.71 4.26 55.2 12.5 Fast Level 8
Elderwood Kha'Zix & Hecarim 0.14 4.27 55.1 12.4 Level 7 Reroll
Spellweaver Veigar & Ornn 0.50 4.30 53.3 15.8 Level 5 Reroll
Blossom Master Yi 0.09 4.31 54.2 10.6 Level 7 Reroll
Juggernaut Zyra & Amumu 0.51 4.31 53.0 14.4 Fast Level 8+

Two things worth noting when you read this table. First, play rate and win rate don't move together: Spellweaver Veigar & Ornn has the highest win% (15.8) at a mid play rate, while the most-played comp (Riftbeast, 0.71) wins less often. High play rate usually means a comp is easy to hit or widely contested, not that it's the strongest. Second, the "Style" column tells you the economy plan — Fast Level 8 comps want you to push levels and roll late, while Reroll comps want you to sit at a level and roll for 3-stars. Match the style to your opening before committing.

Trends and what the numbers mean

The Trends section lists placement values with a delta, e.g. 3.63 (+0.46) or 4.58 (-0.16). The number is the average placement; the signed value is how much it moved. A rising number (positive delta) means that comp or unit is placing worse than before — it got weaker or more contested. A falling number (negative delta) means it's improving. Use this to catch a comp that's being figured out or one that's quietly climbing, rather than only looking at the static ranking.

Tools beyond raw stats

  • Team Builder — assemble a board and check its units, traits, and items before you play it.
  • Tier Lists — condensed rankings when you just want a shortlist.
  • Perfect Synergies — surfaces trait combinations that fit together.
  • Explorer / Tables — custom stat cuts when the default pages don't answer your question.
  • Match history and leaderboards — look up players, including Ranked, Double Up, and bookmarked lists.

How to actually use it

  1. Pick your set and patch first — stats are set-specific, and the site separates live (Set 17) from PBE/next-set (Set 18) data. Don't mix them.
  2. Check Top Comps, then filter by your preferred style (Fast 8 vs. reroll) so you're comparing comps you can actually execute.
  3. Cross-check the comp's units and items on the unit/item pages before forcing it — a comp can rank well but depend on a contested unit or a specific item.
  4. Watch the Trends delta over a few days rather than a single snapshot; one day's movement is noise.
  5. Use Team Builder to test your planned board, then take it into a game.

Limits to keep in mind

The site states it isn't endorsed by or affiliated with Riot Games. Stats are aggregated from matches, so they describe what happened, not what will happen — a low play rate comp can have a high win% simply because only experienced players run it. Treat the numbers as evidence for a decision, not a guarantee.
