What Is the Dean of Students Office at the University of Arizona?

Updated

The Dean of Students Office at the University of Arizona (deanofstudents.arizona.edu) is the central support hub for all Wildcats. It serves students directly and also helps family members, friends, faculty, and staff navigate University resources, understand policies and procedures, and manage crises, life traumas, and other barriers that can get in the way of student success. If you are a student who is not sure where to turn, or someone supporting a student who is struggling, this office is designed as a starting point.

What the Office Does

The site organizes its work around three main areas, reflected in its navigation: Student Engagement, Leadership and Belonging; Student Assistance; and Rights and Responsibility.

Student Assistance

The Student Assistance team helps students — along with their family, friends, faculty, and staff — to:

  • Navigate University resources
  • Understand policies and procedures
  • Manage crises and life traumas
  • Address other barriers that impede student success

The office states that it is committed to student engagement, well-being, and academic success. In practice, this means Student Assistance functions as a coordination point: rather than expecting a student to already know which department handles a given problem, the team helps route them to the right resource and explains how relevant policies work.

Campus Communities

The department houses several programs that connect students with campus life. Its stated goal is to foster a caring culture on campus and make sure all students feel supported and equipped to thrive during their Wildcat journey. These programs fall under Student Engagement, Leadership and Belonging.

Student Rights & Responsibilities

As members of the Wildcat community, students are expected to uphold and maintain an honest academic environment and abide by the standards set forth by the Arizona Board of Regents. The office encourages all members of the University community to know these expectations and understand their rights and responsibilities.

Media and Student-Run Outlets Under the Office

The Dean of Students Office also houses student media operations, which are part of how students get involved and build experience:

Outlet What it is
The Daily Wildcat An award-winning, student-managed and student-produced news outlet serving the University of Arizona and greater Tucson since 1899. It publishes daily at DailyWildcat.com and regularly distributes its print newspaper across campus and neighboring communities.
KAMP Student Radio Home to more than 100 student volunteers and employees who host shows across all genres of music, talk, sports, and more. Students manage the station, anchor its shows, and provide mobile DJ services to campus organizations and local businesses.
UATV 3 The University of Arizona's editorially independent, student-run television station. It broadcasts to more than 6,500 students across the UA's 23 on-campus residence halls via "Channel 3," and reaches the broader student, alumni, and supporting community through online streaming platforms such as Facebook Live.
