What Is Web Whiteboard?
Updated
Web Whiteboard is a browser-based collaborative whiteboard for sketching, brainstorming, and sharing ideas in real time. You can start drawing immediately without creating an account, and anyone you send the board link to can join and edit for free. The main limitation is that boards are only kept for 24 hours unless you save or export them, and keeping work longer requires signing up for a free Miro Plan.
What you can do without signing up
- Open a board and start sketching right away — no registration step.
- Invite others by clicking share board in the top right corner and sending them the link.
- Collaborate in real time: anyone with the link gets the same editing rights as the board creator.
- Let others export the board as a JPG or PDF using the Export this board icon.
How sharing and permissions work
Sharing is link-based. Once someone opens your board link, they can draw on it and edit its contents with the same rights as you. There is no per-person permission setting at this level — if you want to manage edit rights or unlock more functionality, the site directs you to sign up for the free Miro Plan.
| Action | Available without sign-up | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Sketch and brainstorm | Yes | Start immediately |
| Invite others via link | Yes | Share board button, top right |
| Real-time collaboration | Yes | Everyone gets editing rights |
| Export as JPG or PDF | Yes | Export this board icon |
| Manage edit rights | No | Requires free Miro Plan |
| Save beyond 24 hours | No | Sign up for free Miro Plan and log in |
How your board is saved
If you use Web Whiteboard without an account, your board stays available for 24 hours. After that, it is permanently deleted unless you saved or exported it. To keep working on it, sign up for a free Miro Plan, log in, and save your work. Registered Miro users can save a board with the Save to my boards button at the center top of the screen.
How to export or copy a board
- Click the Export this board icon next to the Web Whiteboard name in the upper left corner.
- Choose the file type — image or PDF for standard users.
- Registered Miro users get additional options: image, PDF, spreadsheet, embed, and Google Drive export.
Exporting is also how you create an identical copy of a board. If you neither save nor export, the board is permanently deleted after 24 hours.
Who it fits
Web Whiteboard suits quick, low-friction sessions: a spontaneous brainstorm, a shared sketch with a colleague, or a short class activity where you don't want to make anyone create an account. If you need persistent boards, controlled editing permissions, or more tools, the intended path is the free Miro Plan rather than the no-sign-up version.
