What New Plugins and Algorithms Are Coming to Airwindows?
Updated
Airwindows has confirmed that several new plugins are in development: Rockstar2, BezEQ4, and Weave. Some of these already exist in demo form or are built into ConsoleX3, but they don't yet exist as standalone plugins. The developer (Chris) has stated they will be brought out as standalone releases. Notably, the "More" overdrive control in ConsoleX3 is the first public appearance of the Weave algorithm, and a new Console algorithm uses a "derivative BIP" technique developed as an alternative approach to antialiasing.
Confirmed Upcoming Plugins
Based on the official Airwindows announcement accompanying the ConsoleX3 release, the following plugins are planned:
| Plugin | Current Status |
|---|---|
| Rockstar2 | In the demo, or built into ConsoleX3; not yet standalone |
| BezEQ4 | In the demo, or built into ConsoleX3; not yet standalone |
| Weave | Algorithm already present inside ConsoleX3 as the "More" overdrive control; not yet standalone |
The announcement describes these as "the new plugins... which are either in the demo, or built into ConsoleX3 but don't exist as standalone yet."
Algorithms You Can Already Hear
You don't have to wait for the standalone releases to experience two of the new algorithms — they're already running inside ConsoleX3:
- Weave algorithm: This is the code behind the "More" overdrive control in ConsoleX3. According to the developer, this is "the first you're seeing it."
- Derivative BIP Console algorithm: A new Console algorithm built on a "derivative BIP" technique. The developer describes it as something he came up with after an unsuccessful attempt to reinvent Signalsmith's "elliptic BLEP" antialiasing.
What This Means If You Want to Try Them Now
If your goal is to hear these algorithms before standalone versions arrive, the practical route is to work with ConsoleX3 itself:
- Get ConsoleX3 from the official GitHub releases page (
https://github.com/airwindows/ConsoleX3/releases) and click the version number at the top — as of the announcement, that's 0.0.7. - Use the "More" control to hear the Weave overdrive algorithm.
- The derivative BIP Console algorithm is likewise available within ConsoleX3's Console options.
For the GUI version, use the build the developer made on GitHub. If you only want the no-GUI/standalone builds (for example, for Raspberry Pi), those are offered separately as ConsoleX3NoGUI.zip.
Practical Notes Before You Install
A few details from the announcement matter if you plan to test these:
- Don't install the Audio Unit from the GUI package if you already have a plugin of that name present — the GUI installer won't proceed in that case.
- For surround use, you must use the Audio Unit
ConsoleX3Monoplugin, which runs any number of channels. It does not do surround panning, so handle that separately. - ConsoleX3 is not in Consolidated because it has too many controls; the standalone plugins live in the existing standalone collections instead.
- Customization: AirwindowsGlobals (
AirwindowsGlobals.zip) lets you restyle the GUI plugins. On Mac, place theAirwindowsfolder in your Documents folder so the path resolves toDocuments/Airwindows/AirwindowsGlobals.txt, withGreyWatercolor.jpgbeside it. If JUCE looks elsewhere on your system, put it there instead.
Licensing and Support
All of this is free and open source under the MIT license, supported through the developer's Patreon. The announcement is dated September 27, 2026, and authored by Chris C.
If you specifically want Rockstar2, BezEQ4, or Weave as standalone plugins, the current answer is that they are announced but not yet released in that form — watch the Airwindows site and GitHub for the standalone builds.
