Where to Download MCEdit and Find Documentation or Report Issues

Updated

MCEdit's official site, mcedit.net, is the place to go for all three tasks. Its top navigation has Download, Documentation, Report Issue, and Source Code links, so you can reach the download page, the docs, and the issue tracker from the same menu. Before you download, check which version you need: MCEdit 1.0 and MCEdit 2 Beta are separate downloads, and the site lists different Minecraft version support for each.

Downloading MCEdit

The site offers two download paths, and the right one depends on the Minecraft version you play.

Download Minecraft versions supported (per site) Notes
MCEdit 1.0 Java 1.7, 1.8, 1.9, 1.10, 1.11; Forge 1.7 Listed as the 1.0 download
MCEdit 2 Beta Not itemized on the page beyond the 1.10 block update note Beta stage; Mac OS X downloads noted as available

The site also states that Bedrock, Windows 10, Xbox, PS4, and Pocket editions are not supported. If you play on one of those platforms, neither download will work for your world.

To download, open mcedit.net and select Download in the top navigation, then choose the MCEdit 1.0 or MCEdit 2 Beta option that matches your Java version. The page does not list prices or payment requirements for the downloads, so treat cost and any login requirements as unconfirmed rather than assuming they are free or unrestricted.

MCEdit 2 Beta status

The site's September 10, 2016 post says most vital features are implemented and MCEdit 2 has entered Beta, with issues of any kind welcome. The same post notes Mac OS X downloads are now available and that documentation for plugin authors is underway. If you plan to write plugins, check the Documentation link for that material rather than relying on the main download page.

Finding documentation

Select Documentation in the top navigation. The site points plugin authors there, and the Beta post confirms plugin-author documentation is being developed at that link. For general use, the same Documentation section is the starting point; the page does not describe a separate manual beyond it.

Reporting issues

Select Report Issue in the top navigation to reach the issue-reporting channel. The Beta announcement explicitly invites reports "of any kind," so bugs and other problems with MCEdit 2 Beta can go through that link. The site also lists a Source Code link if you want to inspect or contribute to the code instead.

What else the site offers

  • Home and About for the project background: MCEdit is a saved-game editor for Minecraft, developed since 2010 and described as closer to a 3D world/map/terrain editor than a traditional save editor. It is a third-party utility not affiliated with Minecraft, Mojang AB, or Microsoft.
  • Links for related resources, plus Donate via PayPal and Donate via Patreon options and a Patreon support link.
  • Recent Posts covering MCEdit 2 development digests and the 2.0.0-alpha1 release, useful if you want to track what changed between builds.

One practical caution: because MCEdit 1.0 and MCEdit 2 Beta target different Minecraft versions, confirm your Java edition version against the table above before downloading, and back up your world before editing it with either build.
