Which version to pick
Version choice is driven by your operating system, because the minimum requirements differ by release:
| Version | Minimum OS |
|---|---|
| 8.2 | macOS 10.15+, Windows 7/10/11, Linux Ubuntu 22.04+, Mint 21+, Debian 12+, Fedora 36+, CentOS Stream 9+, Arch |
| 8.1 | macOS 10.15+, Windows 10/11, Linux Ubuntu 20.04 / Mint 21.1 |
| 8.0 | macOS 10.9+, Windows Vista/7/8/10/11, Linux Ubuntu 20.04 |
| 7.0 | macOS 10.9+, Windows XP/Vista/7/8/10/11, Linux Ubuntu 20.04 |
If you are on Windows 7, 8.2 is the newest line that still lists it; 8.1 requires Windows 10/11. If you are on an older macOS or Windows XP, you need 8.0 or 7.0 rather than the latest build.
What changed in the latest release
The 8.2.12 notes list updated codecs (SVT-AV1 4.2.0, x265 4.3), version display for x264/x265/SVT-AV1 in the codec parameters window, improved decoding of corrupted video fragments, and a set of crash and freeze fixes — including startup on Windows 7 when polling OpenCL devices, switching tasks on the Metadata tab, audio scanning on a NAS source, and rewinding to audio or subtitles in some MKV files. If you hit any of those, moving to 8.2.12 is the reason to update rather than staying on an older 8.x build.
Before you download
- Confirm your OS against the table above; the newest version is not the right one for every machine.
- The program is described as self-contained — it does not depend on system codecs or system components, and it works independently of versions 5/6/7/8.0/8.1, so an older install does not need to be removed first.
- The site also links community channels (a Telegram channel and chat, and a VKontakte club) if you want release announcements or help.
The page does not mention pricing, accounts, or login requirements, so nothing here should be read as confirming the software is free or that no sign-in is needed — only that the download list is publicly presented on the site.
