Where to Find Custom Tracks and Custom Characters on the Custom Mario Kart: Double Dash Wiki
Updated
The Custom Mario Kart: Double Dash Wiki (mkdd.org) organizes custom content through its Mod Directory and a set of category links on the Main Page. To browse custom tracks, start with Original Custom Tracks, Retro Tracks, Imported Tracks, or Track Edits; for characters and other content, use Custom Characters and Vehicles or Custom Items. If you want to see what has been released most recently, the Latest Releases list on the Main Page is the fastest entry point.
Track categories on the Main Page
The Main Page groups track content into distinct directories, so you can go straight to the type of track you want rather than searching the whole wiki:
| Category link | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Original Custom Tracks | Tracks built from scratch for Double Dash |
| Retro Tracks | Tracks recreated from earlier Mario Kart games |
| Imported Tracks | Tracks brought in from other games or sources |
| Custom Battle Arenas | Custom arena stages for battle mode |
| Track Edits | Modified versions of existing tracks |
| Texture Hacked Tracks | Tracks changed mainly through texture work |
| Texture Hacked Battle Arenas | Battle arenas changed through texture work |
Each of these is a separate entry in the Mod Directory, so pick the one that matches what you are looking for. For example, if you want a classic course rebuilt in Double Dash style, go to Retro Tracks; if you want something new, go to Original Custom Tracks.
Characters, vehicles, and items
Custom Characters and Vehicles and Custom Items are listed as their own sections in the same directory area. The Latest Releases feed shows this in practice: on 2026-07-30, EZKSupernova released v1.0 of the retro character and kart edit Shy Guy and Standard Kart SG. Character and kart edits are often published together, so check both the character and vehicle listings when looking for a specific driver.
Mod Directory and Author Directory
Two directories serve as the main entry points for finding content:
- Mod Directory — the central index of mods, including the track and character categories above.
- Author Directory (User Links) — organized by creator, useful when you know who made a mod or want to follow a specific modder's work.
The Latest Releases list also names creators alongside each release, so you can move from a release you like to that author's other work through the Author Directory.
Latest Releases as a shortcut
The Main Page's Latest Releases section lists recent versions with dates, for example:
- 2026-10-06 — Rexkip and Newgame+ LD released v1.0 of the retro track Wii Dry Dry Ruins
- 2026-10-01 — King Boo Gaming released v1.0 of the custom track Moonlight City
- 2026-07-01 — Pickpickles released v2.0 of the mod Mario Kart: Double Dash!! Tournament Edition and v2.0 of the distribution Mario Kart: Double Dash!! LAN Edition
Older news is archived by year (2026, 2025, and back), so the feed doubles as a way to browse past releases.
If you want to contribute rather than browse
The wiki provides dedicated starting points for adding content: Making a New Page, Make a Custom Track page, and Make a Custom Character page. Before posting, the Main Page directs users to read the Rules and the Published Works Policy, since posting on the wiki means agreeing to them. New editors can practice in the Sandbox, and the Wiki User's Guide and MediaWiki FAQ cover the editing basics.
The wiki currently reports 798 articles, and its community links point to the Double Crew Discord Server and the MKDD Time Trialing Server, with a fuller community links page also available.
