Which platforms and audio file formats does Amplitude Soundboard support?

Updated

Amplitude Soundboard runs on Windows, Linux, and MacOS, and it can play audio files in AAC, AIFF, ALAC, FLAC, M4A, MP3, MP4, OGG, OPUS, and WAV formats. If your operating system is one of those three and your sound clips are saved in any of those formats, the app will handle them. The interface is also available in several languages, including English, Spanish, Italian, Hungarian, Dutch, Polish, Russian, and Simplified Chinese.

Platform support

Amplitude Soundboard is a cross-platform application built with .Net 6 and Avalonia, so the same tool is available across the three major desktop operating systems:

Platform Supported
Windows Yes
Linux Yes
MacOS Yes

This means you are not locked into a single OS to use or share a soundboard setup.

Supported audio file formats

The app accepts a broad range of common audio formats, so you generally do not need to convert your clips before using them:

  • AAC — common compressed format
  • AIFF — uncompressed, often used on Mac
  • ALAC — Apple Lossless
  • FLAC — lossless compressed
  • M4A — Apple audio container
  • MP3 — the most widely used compressed format
  • MP4 — audio (and video container) format
  • OGG — open container format
  • OPUS — efficient low-latency codec
  • WAV — uncompressed PCM audio

If your file is in one of these formats, you can load it as a clip without extra conversion.

Interface languages

The application is usable in a growing number of languages, currently including:

  • English
  • Español (Spanish)
  • Italiano (Italian)
  • Magyar (Hungarian)
  • Nederlands (Dutch)
  • Polski (Polish)
  • Pусский (Russian)
  • 简体中文 (Simplified Chinese)

The project notes that you can help expand this list by contributing.

Routing audio to other devices

Beyond simple playback, Amplitude Soundboard can send audio through multiple output or input devices on your computer. This typically requires an additional tool depending on your platform:

  • Windows: Virtual Audio Cable
  • MacOS: BlackHole
  • Linux: Pulse Audio commands

This is useful if you want your soundboard audio to appear as a microphone input in another app, such as a voice chat or streaming program.

Quick check before you install

  1. Confirm your OS is Windows, Linux, or MacOS.
  2. Confirm your clips are in one of the supported formats (AAC, AIFF, ALAC, FLAC, M4A, MP3, MP4, OGG, OPUS, WAV).
  3. If you need to route audio into another application, plan for the platform-specific virtual audio tool listed above.

If all three conditions match your setup, Amplitude Soundboard will work for your use case.
