XviD4PSP System Requirements: Which Version Runs on Your OS?
XviD4PSP 8.2.12 runs on macOS 10.15+, Windows 7/10/11, and most modern Linux distributions (Ubuntu 22.04+, Mint 21+, Debian 12+, Fedora 36+, CentOS Stream 9+, Arch). If you are on an older system — Windows Vista or XP, or an older macOS — you need an earlier release, because each major version has its own minimum requirements. The program is portable: it does not require installation and does not depend on system codecs or other system components.
Minimum requirements by version
The official site lists separate minimum requirements for each major version. Match your operating system to the newest version that still supports it.
| Version | macOS | Windows | Linux |
|---|---|---|---|
| 8.2 | 10.15+ | 7 / 10 / 11 | Ubuntu 22.04+, Mint 21+, Debian 12+, Fedora 36+, CentOS Stream 9+, Arch |
| 8.1 | 10.15+ | 10 / 11 | Ubuntu 20.04 / Mint 21.1 |
| 8.0 | 10.9+ | Vista / 7 / 8 / 10 / 11 | Ubuntu 20.04 |
| 7.0 | 10.9+ | XP / Vista / 7 / 8 / 10 / 11 | Ubuntu 20.04 |
Two things stand out when you read the table:
- Windows 7 support exists only in 8.2. Version 8.1 already dropped it, so if you are on Windows 7, 8.2 is your only option among the recent releases.
- The Linux list widened in 8.2. Earlier versions name a single Ubuntu release; 8.2 names several distributions and versions, which matters if you are not on Ubuntu.
How to pick your version
- Identify your OS and its version (for example, Windows 7, macOS 10.13, Ubuntu 20.04).
- Find the newest row in the table whose requirements your system meets.
- Download that version from the Downloads section of winnydows.com. The site lists builds from 8.2.12 back to 7.0.502, so older releases remain available.
- Run the program directly — no installer step is required, and it works independently of versions 5/6/7/8.0/8.1.
Common sticking points
- Assuming the latest version always fits. It does not: 8.2 needs Windows 7 or newer, so Windows Vista and XP users must stay on 8.0 or 7.0.
- Checking only the OS name, not the version. "Linux" is not enough — 8.2 asks for specific distributions and releases, and 8.1 expects Ubuntu 20.04 or Mint 21.1.
- Expecting system codecs to matter. They do not. Everything the program needs is bundled inside, which is also why it does not require installation.
What the program does, in short
XviD4PSP is a video and audio conversion tool. It imports almost any input format — AVI, DIVX, ASF, MPG, MPEG, VOB, TS, MOV, QT, 3GP, MKV, OGM, WMV, FLV, RM/RMVB, and more — and exports to formats including AC3, AAC, MP3, MP2, and MP4. The 8.2 line bundles updated codecs (SVT-AV1 4.2.0, x265 4.3) and shows codec versions in the codec parameters window.
If your goal is simply to confirm whether the software will start on your machine, the table above is the whole answer: find your OS version, take the newest matching release, and download it.
