Civic involvement in a local woman's club means joining an organized group of volunteers who run service projects, fundraisers, and community events for the benefit of their town. In GFWC-affiliated clubs, that work is structured around member-led committees, recurring annual events, and charitable giving. The Woman's Club of Enfield, CT is a concrete example: its public calendar lists an Annual Mum Sale on September 5th and a Treemendous Holiday Event raffle, alongside scholarship applications and a donation option via PayPal and credit cards.

What "Civic" Means Inside a Volunteer Service Club

A club like this is a nonprofit volunteer service organization, not a social club that happens to do charity. Civic engagement here has three practical parts:

• Service — members plan and staff projects that benefit the wider community.
• Fundraising — events raise money that the club then directs toward scholarships and other causes.
• Public participation — events are open to the community, so non-members can support the work without joining.

The distinction matters if you are deciding how to get involved: you can participate as a buyer, donor, or raffle-ticket holder, or you can participate as a member who helps organize.

Typical Activities You Would See

Based on what the Woman's Club of Enfield publishes, a club's civic year tends to include:

The pattern is common across GFWC clubs: a few anchor events each year, a scholarship or giving program, and a calendar that members and the public can follow.

How GFWC-Affiliated Clubs Organize Civic Projects

GFWC (General Federation of Women's Clubs) is the umbrella organization, and local clubs affiliate with it. That affiliation shapes how civic work gets done:

1. A local club sets its own projects — the Enfield club's mum sale and holiday raffle are its own events, not a national program.
2. Members carry the work — committees and volunteers plan, publicize, and staff each event.
3. Money flows back into the community — through scholarships and donations rather than being retained as profit.
4. The club documents itself publicly — a calendar, an "about" section, and a gallery let the community see what it does.

If you want to understand a specific club, its own calendar and event pages are more useful than general descriptions of GFWC, because each club chooses its own causes.

How to Join or Volunteer

The club's site provides direct entry points rather than a formal application flow:

• Contact Us — the starting point for asking about membership or volunteering.
• Calendar — check upcoming events and show up to one; this is the lowest-commitment way to test fit.
• Scholarship Applications — relevant if you are a student rather than a prospective member.
• Donation link — for supporting the work financially without joining.

A practical sequence: check the calendar for the next event, attend it, then use Contact Us to ask what member commitments look like. Expect the answer to involve helping run events like the mum sale or holiday raffle.

What to Check Before Committing

• Meeting and event frequency — a club with several annual events needs more volunteer hours than one with a single fundraiser.
• Where the money goes — ask which scholarships or local causes the club supports.
• Member vs. non-member roles — buying a raffle ticket supports the club; joining means organizing.
• Dues or expectations — the Enfield site does not publish membership costs, so ask directly through Contact Us.

Civic involvement in a woman's club is ultimately event-driven volunteer work with a charitable purpose. The clearest way to judge whether it fits you is to attend one public event and ask the members what they do the rest of the year.
