What is Tetris?

Tetris is a puzzle game, and the official site at Tetris is the brand's hub for playing it, downloading official versions, and following news, merchandise and events. The page describes a game created in 1984 that became one of the most recognizable video game franchises, and it presents Tetris as a family of products rather than a single release.

What you can do there

• Play a browser version of Tetris directly on the site.
• Download the official mobile app, which the page describes as offering hundreds of levels plus single-player modes for quick rounds or longer mastery sessions.
• Read articles and press releases, including announcements about an animated series and a World Tetris Day.
• Shop official merchandise and games, from apparel and jackets to board games and console titles.
• Follow the brand's social accounts or sign up for a newsletter.

How the game works

The core idea is simple: falling block shapes, called tetrominoes, are rotated and slotted together to complete horizontal lines, which then clear and make room for more. The challenge comes from the increasing speed and from the gap you leave behind when a piece does not fit cleanly. The site points to variants that layer extra features on that foundation, such as Tetris Block Party with social play and friendly competition, and console titles like Tetris Effect: Connected and Tetris Forever.

Which entry point fits you

A practical next step

Decide whether you want to play, watch, or buy. If you only want a quick round, open the site and play in the browser. If you want a version to keep on your phone, use the mobile download link. If you are shopping for a fan, browse the merch and games pages, where the page lists items such as a 40th anniversary jacket, a Tetris board game and Tetris Effect: Connected.

Can I play Tetris for free online on the official website?

Yes. The official site includes a Play Now option that launches an online Tetris game directly in your browser, so you can start a session without buying anything.

What you can expect

• A browser-based version of Tetris hosted on the official site.
• Quick access for a short break or a longer practice session.
• No download required for the web play option shown on the page.

Where free play fits alongside paid items The same site also promotes mobile apps, a wearable watch, board games, apparel and other merchandise. Those are separate products; the online game is the free entry point.

Next step Open Tetris and select Play Now to start a round. If you prefer mobile play, look for the official Tetris app download link on the same page; if you want a physical copy, browse the merch and games section instead.

How do I download the official Tetris mobile app?

Download the official Tetris mobile app by going to Tetris and using the “DOWNLOAD NOW” link for “Tetris on Mobile” on the homepage. That link should hand you off to the correct app-store listing for your device; install it the same way you would any other app.

If you prefer to search inside your phone’s app store, search for “Tetris” and look for the publisher listed as The Tetris Company (or “Tetris®” branding). Avoid lookalike apps with similar names from unknown developers.

A quick decision rule: if the listing doesn’t clearly connect to the official Tetris brand, don’t install it. Once installed, open the app and either play a quick round or work through levels depending on the mode you choose.

Where can I buy official Tetris merchandise and games?

Buy official Tetris merchandise and games directly through the official site's shop sections: the page links to See Merch and See Games, where it says you can buy official Tetris products "from Apparel to Games." The same page also promotes specific items with their own buy or download actions, including the ILTHY x Tetris 40th Anniversary Varsity Jacket, Tetris Forever, Tetris: The Grand Master 4 – Absolute Eye, Tetris Effect: Connected, Tetris – The Board Game, and a Sprayground Tetris Shark Stacker DLXSR Backpack. For digital play, the site points to Play Now and mobile Download Now options rather than a physical checkout.

If you want a quick decision rule:

• Physical merch and tabletop items → start with the official See Merch section on Tetris.
• Video games and digital versions → use See Games or the Play Now / Download Now buttons on the same site.
• A specific collectible or collaboration → search the item name on the official shop first, since the homepage highlights limited or anniversary products.

As a practical example, if you are shopping for a gift, the board game or apparel is a safer general choice; if you want to play immediately, the mobile download or online play option is the faster route.

What is the Tetris MyPlay Watch and how does it work?

The Tetris MyPlay Watch is an official wearable from the Tetris brand that puts a playable version of Tetris on your wrist. According to the official site, it is “shipping now” and promoted as “the coolest thing for your wrist since the 80s,” with the site offering a “BUY NOW” link. The same page presents it alongside official Tetris mobile apps, merch and games, so it is positioned as a licensed Tetris product rather than a general-purpose smartwatch.

How it works, in practical terms:

• It is a watch form factor with Tetris built in, so you play directly on the device rather than through a phone app.
• The official page does not detail the control scheme, screen technology, battery life, price or supported platforms. Those specifics would need to come from the product listing itself.
• Because it is marketed as a Tetris item, expect the experience to be a compact, novelty-first version of the game rather than a full console or mobile Tetris release.

A sensible next step is to open the official product page and check the controls, charging method and return policy before buying. If you want deeper Tetris play, the site also points to the official mobile app and online play; if you want a collectible, the watch sits alongside merch such as the ILTHY x Tetris 40th Anniversary Varsity Jacket.

What is the Tetris movie on Apple TV about and where can I watch it?

The Tetris movie on Apple TV tells the story of how the game's global rights were secured. According to the official site's description, it follows video game designer Henk Rogers as he seeks worldwide rights to Tetris (1984), leading to tense negotiations in the Soviet Union involving creators, government, and corporate intrigue. It is a Cold War-era business thriller rather than a film about playing the game.

Where to watch

• The official site points to Apple TV as the place to watch it, with a "Watch now" link.
• For the most reliable current availability, open the Apple TV app or Apple TV website and search "Tetris." Streaming rights and regional catalogs change, so the official storefront is the best place to confirm whether it is included with a subscription or requires a rental or purchase.

Practical next step If you want the historical context before or after watching, Henk Rogers' book The Perfect Game: Tetris: From Russia with Love is featured on the same official site. Pairing the film with the book gives you the dramatized version and a first-person account of the same events.
